Three weeks after being let go by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Josh Grizzard has found a quick landing spot in Philadelphia. The Eagles have added the 35-year-old to their offensive staff as pass game coordinator, reinforcing a unit that struggled for consistency through the 2025 season and finished in the bottom third of the league through the air.
Grizzard’s arrival comes at a transitional moment for the Eagles, who also moved on from their offensive coordinator after the season. While Philadelphia explored Grizzard as a potential replacement, the organization ultimately went in a different direction, setting the stage for a recalibrated offensive approach heading into 2026.
Josh Grizzard joins Eagles with chance to reshape passing attack
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “More help in Philadelphia: Eagles are hiring former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard as their pass game coordinator, per sources. Grizzard now will join new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion to lead Philadelphia’s offense.” Grizzard will work under the newly hired Mannion after interviewing twice for the role himself, a move that signals the Eagles’ intent to modernize and stabilize a passing offense that ranked 23rd league-wide in 2025 despite elite talent at key positions.
Grizzard’s resume remains a mix of promise and caution. He joined Tampa Bay as pass game coordinator in 2024, a season that marked a career peak for Baker Mayfield.
The Buccaneers finished third in passing yards, Mayfield threw a personal-best 41 touchdowns, and Mike Evans extended his remarkable streak with an 11th straight 1,000-yard season. That surge led to coordinator Liam Coen’s departure to Jacksonville and Grizzard’s promotion.
The follow-up year proved far more difficult. Tampa Bay’s offense slipped from fourth in scoring to 18th in 2025, and Grizzard was dismissed after just one season calling plays. Injuries, however, were impossible to ignore. Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan missed a combined 30 games, while key contributors along the offensive line were rarely healthy at the same time. The context matters when evaluating Grizzard’s first coordinator stint.
In Philadelphia, his role is more focused and potentially better suited. Grizzard is expected to work closely with Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith, offering schematic input rather than full control. Still, the broader picture remains unsettled. A.J. Brown’s future is uncertain after publicly expressing frustration despite another 1,000-yard season, and Dallas Goedert is nearing free agency following an 11-touchdown campaign.
For Grizzard, the Eagles represent both a reset and an opportunity. For Philadelphia, the hire reflects a calculated bet that his earlier success in Tampa Bay can translate into a more efficient, adaptable passing game in 2026.
