The Chicago Sky recently suspended WNBA pro Angel Reese. This happened because of the remarks she made about her teammates that were reportedly "detrimental to the team.” Hence, she won’t be playing the first half of their game against Las Vegas on Sunday. After receiving her eighth technical foul of the season in the Sky's last game, Reese was given a league suspension. Amidst a reportedly unsuccessful season, Reese made headlines for criticizing her teammates in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.After criticizing her Chicago teammates and threatening to take a "different direction" in a recent interview, Angel Reese was suspended for the first half of Sunday's Sky game against the Aces. The ban was confirmed by the team on Friday. Due to a one-game ban imposed by the WNBA for receiving her eighth technical foul of the season, Reese will already miss the team's game on Friday night against Indiana. The team then said in a statement:"The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player. We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball.. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team."They continued:"Because of statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during the league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces. The matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team."This happened as the two-time All-Star expressed her dissatisfaction with the squad earlier this week. She told the Chicago Tribune that if the team's prospects don't improve, she "may have to move in a different direction and do what's best for me." However, after Wednesday's victory over Connecticut, she apologized for her remarks. With a record of 10-30, Chicago is out of the running for the playoffs. Reese has called on the league to make roster adjustments. In the Chicago Tribune interview, she discussed the necessity to do "what's best for me" if nothing changes. She also talked about the need to avoid "settling for the same s–t we did this year." She told the publication:“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want… I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”She continued:“We have to get good players.. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me. I'm willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that's what I'm going to do this offseason. So it's going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can't settle for what we have this year."She finally concluded:“We can't rely on Courtney to come back at the age that she's at.. I know she'll be a great asset for us, but we can't rely on that. We need someone probably a little younger with some experience, somebody who's been playing the game and is willing to compete for a championship and has done it before."With a 10-30 record going into Friday's game, the Sky will have missed the playoffs. Last season, Reese, who was selected seventh overall in the WNBA draft, averaged 14.7 points and a league-high 12.6 rebounds.
