Trinity Rodman made it clear she is not here to please everyone. The Washington Spirit forward spoke up after people online criticized what she wore before her team’s NWSL game against Utah Royals FC. Rodman arrived at Audi Field in a bold outfit that quickly got attention. Some fans liked it, but many did not. Instead of staying quiet, she answered right away. On her Instagram story, she posted her outfit and added a direct line: “Disclaimer: Idc if you didn’t like the boots.” That short message said everything. Rodman did not try to explain her look or defend it in detail. She simply made it clear she is comfortable with her choices.
At 23, she is already one of the biggest names in women’s soccer, and moments like this show how she handles pressure off the field too.
Her outfit included a ‘Marty Supreme’ jacket and black boots that stood out. It was different, and that is exactly why people talked about it. But Rodman’s response showed she expected the reaction and was ready for it.
Trinity Rodman responds to outfit criticism while Washington Spirit draw with Utah Royals FC and Ben Shelton faces mixed results
While the outfit created noise online, the match itself was much quieter for Trinity Rodman.
She could not score, and the Washington Spirit played out a 1-1 draw against Utah Royals FC. It was not her biggest game, but it was a steady performance as the team shared points.
Away from soccer, Rodman has also been in the spotlight because of her relationship with tennis player Ben Shelton. She has been seen supporting him at different tournaments, including during the early part of the season in Australia.
Recently, though, Ben Shelton has had a tough run. He lost early during the Miami Open, which is part of the Sunshine Double. Some fans started to question his form, but former American tennis player Sam Querrey does not see it as a big issue.
Speaking on the Nothing Major podcast, Sam Querrey said, “I feel like Ben has these massive peaks like seven times a year, basically at every major you trust him to play well and then three or four other times, Dallas or wherever it is, he just plays huge tennis. In my opinion, it’s nothing to worry about. He was sick. I always thought Miami was tough to play in. I never played well there. Maybe Miami is one of those places for Ben for whatever reason. But I trust that during a Monte-Carlo, Madrid, French Open, Wimbledon, he is going to be ready to go and play well.”
Ben Shelton is now expected to return at the Houston Open, where he will try to bounce back. Meanwhile, Trinity Rodman seems fully focused on doing things her way, whether it is her fashion or her game.
