Noida International Airport Phase 1

The phase 1 of Noida International Airport at Jewar has been built at a cost of Rs 11,282 crore. The broader plan is to make Jewar a key aviation hub in northern India, easing the burden from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The total estimated cost of the project which will be ready in subsequent phases is Rs 29,560 crore.

According to official details, the concessionaire has invested Rs 6,876 crore in the first phase, while the state government has spent Rs 4,406 crore on land acquisition.

Considered one of India’s largest greenfield airport developments, in its initial stage, the airport is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually, with the potential to expand capacity to 70 million passengers per year in the future.

Noida International Airport Easing Delhi Airport Congestion

To begin with, the Noida International Airport at Jewar will have one runway and a single passenger terminal which will have the capacity to handle around 1.2 crore passengers annually.

The runway is designed to handle 30 flights per hour, while aircraft stands can accommodate 10 aerobridge-connected planes and 15 via buses.

The infrastructure includes a 3,900-metre runway capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft, along with modern navigation facilities such as an Instrument Landing System and advanced airfield lighting, enabling seamless, all-weather, round-the-clock operations.

Planned as a forward-looking and environmentally conscious project, Noida International Airport is intended to function as a net-zero emissions facility, incorporating energy-efficient technologies and sustainable operational practices.

Noida International Airport Flight Operations

Commercial flight operations are expected to commence only from May at the earliest, according to a TOI report. Certain mandatory regulatory clearances are still needed to be completed before airlines can begin ticket sales and start services.

At present, IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express have confirmed plans to operate domestic services from the airport. The initial flight network is likely to connect Noida with key cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Lucknow and Dehradun, although the final routes will be announced only after the required security approvals are in place. Situated along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is being developed as an integrated multi-modal transport hub. It is designed to offer seamless connectivity through road, rail, metro and regional transit networks, ensuring smooth movement for both passengers and cargo. However, as of now there are no public transport options available.

Noida International Airport Multi-phase expansion

The airport is planned to expand in multiple phases as passenger traffic rises. Phase 2, expected by 2030, will increase capacity to 3 crore passengers annually, adding infrastructure such as a second runway and MRO facilities.

Phase 3, targeted for 2034, aims to take capacity to 5 crore passengers, along with a second terminal building. By Phase 4 in 2036, the airport is projected to handle 7 crore passengers annually, supported by cargo hub expansion and aerospace manufacturing hubs.

Noida International Airport Cargo Terminal

The airport has been equipped with a comprehensive cargo infrastructure, including a Multi-Modal Cargo Hub that houses an Integrated Cargo Terminal along with dedicated logistics zones.

Apart from the first phase of the Noida International Airport for passengers, its cargo terminal is also being thrown open. The cargo terminal will initially handle 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of freight each year, with scope to expand to 18 lakh metric tonnes.
