Alex Perez opens up on his “motivation factor” that helped his UFC comeback ahead of Su Mudaerji flyweight bout
Alex Perez has once again shown why he is considered one of the toughest fighters in the UFC flyweight division. The 34-year-old fighter recently earned an important win over Charles Johnson. He gave a stellar comeback after going through injuries, defeats, and criticism over the last few years. The victory was especially meaningful because Perez was fighting in the final bout of his UFC contract and managed to secure a new deal with the promotion.
Perez has faced many difficult moments in his career. After challenging for the flyweight title against Deiveson Figueiredo, he suffered several losses and later endured a serious ACL injury that kept him away from action for more than 500 days. Even after returning, he faced more setbacks inside the octagon. However, Perez believes resilience and support from family and friends helped him continue fighting through tough times as he now prepares to face Su Mudaerji at UFC Fight Night in Macau.
Alex Perez told IndiaToday that he prefers not to spend too much time thinking about failures or mistakes. Reflecting on his weight miss before the Charles Johnson fight, he said the best solution was to quickly move forward and focus on improving in training. According to Perez, holding on to disappointment only creates more problems. So he chooses to learn from errors and continue working hard.
The American fighter also spoke about the importance of having strong support during difficult periods in life. He shared that not every moment in a fighter’s career will be positive, but family and close friends helped him overcome injuries and setbacks. Perez believes their encouragement played a major role in helping him return to competition with confidence.
Looking ahead, Perez said his goal is simple, to continue winning fights and force his way back into title discussions. He explained that many decisions in the UFC are outside a fighter’s control, including matchmaking and rankings. Because of that, he only focuses on training, improving, and delivering strong performances inside the cage.
Perez also praised his upcoming opponent Su Mudaerji, calling him a dangerous striker with plenty of UFC experience. He expects an exciting matchup and hopes the fight turns into a striking contest because both fighters enjoy standing and exchanging punches. Currently ranked No. 11 in the flyweight division, Perez knows the road back to a title shot will not be easy, but he remains determined to prove himself once again.
