Antonio Felix da Costa is currently riding high after securing back-to-back wins, first in Jeddah and then at the Madrid E-Prix. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver also has a rare feat to his name, that is, winning two full double-headers during his Formula E career. The Portuguese driver first achieved this feat in 2020 by winning both races at the Berlin double-header, and then repeated it in 2024. No Formula E driver has won two full double-headers, although several have managed to win one.
Antonio Felix da Costa’s unmatched Formula E feat
Antonio Felix da Costa was racing for DS Techeetah when he claimed the Berlin double-header during the coronavirus-affected 2020 season. He went on to win the Formula E World Championship that year. He repeated the feat at the Portland double-header in 2024 while racing for Porsche.
Formula E is currently on a month-long break following the Madrid E-Prix. The championship will return with the Berlin double-header scheduled for 1-3 May. It remains to be seen whether da Costa can secure a hat-trick with a third consecutive win or even claim another double-header. Alternatively, a new name could join the list of Berlin double-header winners.
Antonio Felix da Costa explains regenerative braking
Antonio Felix da Costa is currently spending his break playing golf and pursuing other interests. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver recently featured in a video explaining the concept of regenerative braking in Formula E cars.
Da Costa said in the video, “Hey guys, welcome to another At Track with Dak, and today, in 30 seconds, I’m going to talk to you about regen. So basically, here in Formula E, every time we press the brake pedal, we have 600 kilowatts of energy being regenerated back into the battery so that we can use that when we go on power and deploy it.”
He added, “The interesting thing here, though, is that for every race we do, 30% of the energy we use isn’t in the battery to start with - it’s all regenerated as we drive during the race. That’s pretty cool, I think. See you in the next one.”
