Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka spoke about patience and belief after his team beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in a last-over finish in their IPL match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.
Lucknow won by five wickets, chasing 157 with one ball to spare. Captain Rishabh Pant guided the chase after Hyderabad had put up a fight.
After the match, Goenka said results like this come from time and belief within the group. He credited the leadership and the clarity in the squad, and added that the team will keep working to improve.
“Building a season takes time, patience, and collective belief. Today reflected all three. The captain set the tone, and the group followed with clarity and discipline. That alignment is what allows a team to grow. A step forward, with a long way still to go. Grateful for the support. We keep building from here,” Goenka wrote in an Instagram post.
Earlier, Lucknow’s bowlers restricted Hyderabad to 156 for 9, despite a partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the middle overs.
In the chase, Pant and Aiden Markram played key roles as the match went to the final over.
Mohammed Shami had earlier taken 2 for 9 in four overs to keep Hyderabad’s total in check.
The win was Lucknow’s first of the IPL 2026 season. They will next play Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
