That's Tea at The Gabba on Day 3
Thanks to an unbroken 67-run stand between Shardul Thakur (33*) and debutant Washington Sundar (38*), India have reached 253/6 at the tea break, trailing Australia by 116 runs now. The dogged resistance by the inexperienced Indian pair, even against the second new ball, has frustrated Australia. While at one stage the visitors stared at conceding a big first-innings lead, it seems they might manage to match Australia's 369 now. Crucial session coming up.
10:10 (IST) Jan 17
What a crafty flick from Shardul (29*) and had the timing on it to take the ball past the boundary. A slightly edgy boundary to third-man fence next ball frustrates Cummins more. India's 250 comes up with that. 253/6.
10:07 (IST) Jan 17
A little finger-injury scare for Shardul Thakur. The physio came on to check it.
09:49 (IST) Jan 17
Fifty partnership between Thakur (23*) and Sundar (35*). And this is very crucial in the context of this game. Sundar almost shows ball the way with a guide for four between gully and point to bring up the landmark.
09:47 (IST) Jan 17
Hazlewood cuts Thakur (23) in half, almost. The ball jagged in sharply, took the inside-edge, missed the stumps and beat Paine too. Four runs. India 235/6.
09:44 (IST) Jan 17
Australia have taken the second new ball
09:38 (IST) Jan 17
Some welcoming news about Saini: He will bat
09:36 (IST) Jan 17
Washington Sundar's Test debut becoming memorable. Three wickets and now a good hand with the bat
09:33 (IST) Jan 17
Labuschagne into the attack. Paine trying to surprise the batsmen or trying to keep his pacers fresh for the new ball that is two overs away? India 224/6.
09:27 (IST) Jan 17
What's that!!
09:22 (IST) Jan 17
Thakur (14*) isn't holding back and trying to show his array of shots. However, he's lucky there to not get out caught as his attempted cut over point just about evades Green who ran backwards to take the skier but it was a little too far in the end. India 218/6.
09:10 (IST) Jan 17
Sundar (22*) growing in confidence. Back-to-back boundaries by the debutant. First whipped Starc through the leg side and then a delightful straight drive past mid-off. India 215/6.
09:03 (IST) Jan 17
Sundar (12*) moves into double figures but should thank his stars, as a thick edge induced by Starc goes through the slip cordon for a four. India 205/6.
09:00 (IST) Jan 17
70 overs bowled in India innings. The second new ball is 10 overs away for Australia. With India's longish tail, Paine shouldn't have any hesitation in taking it, if India's lower order holds forte for the next 60 balls.

A couple for Sundar (8*) as he tries to tap the ball, but the half-edge goes into the ground and bounces over the slip cordon. India's 200 is up as well. 201/6.
08:50 (IST) Jan 17
Four! Thakur means business. Cummins isn't amused to see the roll past the boundary rope at long-off. India 199/6.
08:48 (IST) Jan 17
Shardul Thakur comes in and straight away pulls Cummins for a six, picked the length early to deposit the bowler in the stands at backward square leg
08:42 (IST) Jan 17
GONE! Poor, poor shot from Pant (23). Tries to play a cheeky shot to a ball pitched short Hazlewood, but caught superbly n the gully by Green. Third wicket for Hazlewood.
08:38 (IST) Jan 17
Pant (21*) cuts Cummins behind square for four, and then produces another one straight past the bowler off the next delivery. And almost perishes next ball miscuing a pull shot that fell in no man's land. India 184/5.

That's how Mayank fell
