How Neeraj Chopra fell for Himani Mor

Inside Neeraj Chopra and Himani Mor’s Secret Mountain Wedding: The ‘Love Plus Arranged’ Romance We Didn't See Coming

When India's golden boy Neeraj Chopra casually broke the internet with his wedding pictures in January 2025, practically everyone had the exact same reaction.

Wait, when did this even happen?

2/6

All about the union

We live in an era where high-profile weddings are basically week-long, heavily sponsored festivals. You usually have paparazzi camping outside airports and outfits tagged on Instagram before the ceremony even finishes.

But Neeraj and his bride, Himani Mor, completely flipped the script. They pulled off the ultimate hush-hush wedding, and their story is a refreshing break from the usual celebrity romance playbook.

A match forged on the field

If you’re wondering what kind of person can seamlessly match the intense discipline of an Olympic champion, look no further than Himani.

Hailing from Haryana, she’s no stranger to the relentless grind of professional sports. She’s a former tennis player who climbed the ranks to secure a career-best national ranking of 42 in singles.

Athletics literally runs in her veins. With kabaddi-playing parents and brothers who stepped into the wrestling and boxing rings, she grew up intimately understanding the demands of the field.

After finishing her bachelor’s degree at Miranda House in Delhi, Himani packed her bags for the US to pursue a Master’s in Sports Management.

According to Neeraj, that shared background was the magic spark. They didn't have to explain the grueling training schedules, the emotional toll, or the immense pressure to each other—they just understood it.

What started as casual conversations between two athletes evolved into something much deeper while they were spending time together in the US, far away from the flashing cameras back home.

The 'love plus arranged' pact

Once they knew they wanted to spend their lives together, they went the classic Indian route.

Neeraj’s uncle perfectly summed it up by calling it a "love plus arranged" marriage. They brought their families into the loop, and naturally, both sets of parents were thrilled to give their blessing.

The timing, however, was dictated by the track.

With the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics slowly creeping up on the horizon, Neeraj's calendar was only going to get crazier. Instead of putting their personal lives on hold for another two whole years, the couple decided to make it official during his brief off-season.

70 guests, one clueless pandit, and Tokyo the dog

The wedding itself was a masterclass in quiet elegance.

They skipped the grand, predictable palaces of Rajasthan and instead opted for a serene three-day celebration at a resort in Kumarhatti, a beautiful mountain town near Solan in Himachal Pradesh.

And when we say intimate, we mean intimate.

The guest list was strictly capped at just 65 to 70 immediate family members.

Want to know how they managed to keep the photos from leaking?

A strict no-phone policy for the guests.

The secrecy was actually so airtight that even the pandit officiating the pheras had absolutely zero clue he was about to marry off India's biggest track-and-field superstar. He only found out when the groom actually sat down at the mandap!

Oh, and arguably the most VIP guest in attendance was Neeraj’s beloved dog, Tokyo.

Setting a ₹1 example

But maybe the most beautiful detail of this entire story is the message the families chose to send.

In a culture where extravagant dowries still regularly make headlines, Neeraj's family took a firm stance against the practice. They accepted a token amount of exactly ₹1 as shagun—a simple, traditional mark of respect and good luck.

Neeraj and Himani eventually broke the news themselves on social media, entirely on their own terms.

It was a quiet, classy statement from a couple who clearly prioritizes personal peace and family connection over putting on a public spectacle.

Very nice, very good and very true. I like the way they have executed their wedding. Just one suggestion- Don't stop talking (via any medium) to each other even in worst situation.
