8 destinations in Northeast India that are ideal for offbeat travellers

Tired of the same old travel destinations? Every traveller is in search of something new to visit and unwind, but somehow can't becasue of their crazy schedule or various reasons known to them. If you are also one of them, here are some of the off-beat travel destinations in Northeast India that make for a refreshing itinerary:

2/8

Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh

Only just over a hundred kilometres from Itanagar, Ziro Valley is emerging as a tourist destination for those who are visiting the North East. The area's beauty lies in its scenic beauty and tranquillity that one can obtain from the rice fields and the bamboo villages.

Here, you can explore famous tourist destinations like the Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and the Meghna Cave Temple, or just unwind next to a breathtaking view and soak in the peace of the mountains. Ziro Valley is ideal for being close to nature and experiencing a new culture and cuisine, so it is the best place for your next getaway.

3/8

Dzukou Valley, Nagaland

Also called the "Valley of Flowers," Dzukou Valley is a trekker's heaven. Emerald green hills and beautiful seasonal flowers are some of the highlights of this place. You can opt to trek to the Dzukou Lily Sanctuary or the Dzukou Valley Viewpoint along its rugged routes. This peaceful Himalayan place has a serene atmosphere and an opportunity for adventure.

4/8

Loktak Lake, Manipur

It's famous for phumdis floating over it. Take a boat tour between floating clusters and visit KeibulLamjao National Park, the only floating national park in the world and home to the critically endangered Sangai deer. It's an experiential nature and culture trip.

5/8

Unakoti, Tripura

Unakoti is an ancient place, where you get to witness huge rock sculptures and stone figures of deities and goddesses, particularly celebrating Lord Shiva. Among the rock-cut figures, the central head of Shiva called 'UnakotiswaraKalBhairava' and Ganesha figures deserve special mention.

6/8

Nohkalikai Falls, Meghalaya

It’s the tallest plunge waterfall in India and a breathtaking natural spectacle. Watching the water cascade powerfully into a crystal-clear blue-green pool is a humbling experience. Located near Cherrapunji, this majestic waterfall is surrounded by stunning scenery, making it a truly awe-inspiring sight.

7/8

Phawngpui, Mizoram

Also referred to as the "Blue Mountain," Phawngpui is the highest peak in Mizoram, and is part of the Phawngpui National Park. It is possible to trek through its diverse forests, viewing rare birds in the Farpak area. The mountain is normally covered with a thin layer of clouds, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts.

8/8

Namdapha National Park, Arunachal Pradesh

It is a biodiversity hotspot with extensive national park coverage of dense tropical rainforests. There are chances of wildlife spotting, perhaps near Deban Forest Rest House or Moti Jheel. Namdapha offers a genuine wilderness experience suitable for those on the lookout for raw nature and unusual wildlife encounters, unlike anywhere else really.
