Why not to shop on Saturday?

India is a land of varied cultural beliefs and customs. Here, every day is dedicated to a god or a guru that people follow; the country is a true reflection of unity in diversity. One of the days that is often considered not fit for shopping for certain items is Saturday. For the unversed, Saturdays are associated with the planet Saturn and, in India, Lord Shani, as per the Hindu religion. In many cultures, it is considered a day of restraint and caution. Hence, there are a lot of things that are refrained from being brought home on this day. Here is a list of seven objects or things that one should not buy on a Saturday and why.

Also, according to several beliefs, wearing black shoes to work on a Saturday can lead to hindrances in your personal growth and promotions at work.

3/8

Knives and sharp objects

Shopping sharp objects like knives and scissors of any metal on Saturday should also be prohibited. It is said that it can lead to disputes, accidents, or injuries within the family.

4/8

Black clothes

Although black is Shani Dev’s color, purchasing it for personal use on Saturday is thought to invite negativity or emotional heaviness. Instead, offer black cloth to Shani Dev as a remedy. Many cultures discourage the purchase of black clothing on Saturdays, as it is believed to invite sorrow and misfortune.

5/8

Salt

It is also said not to shop for salt on Saturdays. It is believed that salt represents purity and balance in life. Buying it on Saturday is thought to disturb domestic peace or financial stability.

Mustard oil

One should also avoid buying mustard oil on Saturday. However, donating mustard oil in temples on Saturdays is considered as a healthy practice. It is believed that buying oil on Saturday can bring in bad health, and sickness or bring up unfavourable conditions that can eventually make you sick.
