Ivana Trump, Donald Trump’s first wife passed away on Thursday at 73. During her ex-husband’s presidency, Ivana kept a low profile, and while not many were familiar with her, Ivana was said to be a truly amazing person. After cordially separating in 1992, Donald and Ivana continued to keep a friendly relationship and they had nothing but great things to say about each other. While not much is known about their relationship, here’s a timeline of how they met and how their divorce eventually became a huge publicised event.
Who was Ivana Trump?
Ivana was a former model and Olympic skier who married Donald Trump in 1977. They had three children together, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump. She had met Donald on a modelling trip to New York in 1976. Love blossomed and nine months later, they got married. She was said to be a very helpful person who aided Donald during his real estate ventures. She went on to help him incredibly when he established his hotel company, Trump Organisation.
The highly-publicised divorce
However, the two filed for a divorce that received a lot of public attention. Ivana accused Donald Trump of rape and pulling out her hair, in a deposition. However, she later retracted her statement and said that she had felt ‘violated’ by her ex-husband but she didn’t mean to say rape ‘in a literal or criminal sense.’
What had she received in the settlement?
Reportedly, Ivana Trump had received a 14 million dollar divorce settlement along with huge real estate deals. Even though she was a huge public figure during her marriage, she tried to shy away from the limelight during the years when Donald Trump rose to fame and eventually became the president of the United States.
