Dating trends: Replying fast to texts means genuine interest to Gen Z!

What's your take on the new dating trend?

With the rise of online dating and the changing lifestyle, the signs and language of romance have evolved a lot in the past decade. As per the latest dating trend, if you are replying to the texts sent on the mobile phone, you are genuinely interested in them.

Dating app, QuackQuack, ran a one-week survey among 12,000 users from both Tier 1 and Tier 2 Indian cities. The participants ranged between 18 and 32; 65% of them were working professionals, and 35% were students and business owners.

It's all in the speed!

42% of the GenZ users on the platform revealed that the speed of a match's reply holds a lot of importance. It is a good enough measure to determine whether a person wants you or if they are just not that into you. 28% of the female users in the group think that if your match replies in under 2 minutes, it indicates their interest in you. You can also safely assume that they want to continue the conversation. One more interesting point mentioned by these daters is that if your match tends to remain online and in your chat box throughout a conversation, there's a higher chance of them being genuine and looking for a serious relationship. The other 20% explained that if a match, especially a man, takes over three days to reply, he might be chatting with multiple people. It is just an assumption, but more often than not, it has proven to be the right one.

Length Matters

According to 39% users, the length of the first message can decide the fate of a match. A lengthy first message is often considered a benchmark of genuine interest. As per GenZ, a detailed message could mean that your match is not mass forwarding the same message to a million more people. A finely crafted message increases the likelihood of capturing people's attention and suggests genuine interest in connecting. People interested in casual relationships prefer to send shorter and impersonal messages.

Take the hint

The women revealed the hints they often drop for their matches. According to 26% of female users between the ages 20 to 32 years, if a woman finds her match's joke mildly funny and expresses it in more than a mere LOL, she might be dropping hints that she is interested.

Complimenting a man's personality, appearance, and, in some cases, his wit, is a major hint. When a woman adjusts her schedule to talk to a match, reshuffles her routine to align with a man, openly discusses her family, uses affectionate nicknames, and engages in other seemingly trivial gestures, these actions are clear hints of her genuine interest. They indicate she's into him and hopes to progress the relationship further.

The key to taking the relationship to the next level lies in the details. These girls emphasized that being able to pick up on subtle hints can elevate your approach and move things faster and in the right direction.

Millennials vs GenZ

Almost 50 % of users above 28 expressed how they find it difficult to understand the new and coming terms coined by the GenZ population. Words like "delulu," "solulu," "rizz," and "cap," and abbreviations like FR, HMU, IYKYK, and the like are not just confusing but also juvenile and lazy.

Millennials dating GenZ stated how they find their partner's lingo absurd, and it is hard to keep up with new terms springing left, right, and center. 51% of users between 18 and 25 think Millennials are too uptight, and so is their love language. They care more about grammar than making connections. They reported fallouts between GenZ-Millennial couples solely based on language and communication issues.

New term in town

31% of GenZ users below 23 from metropolitan cities revealed that the latest among the GenZ dating lingo is Submarining. It means when a match ghosts you and suddenly reappears after months, quite similar to a submarine resurfacing after staying underwater. The term has been in much use in recent months, but the idea has been there since the beginning of time, opined these young daters.

The app's Founder and CEO, Ravi Mittal, told us that "The way the new gen daters communicate or express love is not vastly different from the older generation, but still, we see some new additions and some other forms of affection getting obsolete. The idea behind this survey is to get better clarity on the new, and in some cases, improved, style of communication. For instance, we see a match sending a long and detailed first message has a better response rate. The reason behind that is the new generation of daters gauge interest in terms of the length of a message."
