Dr. Geetanjali Chopra, Founder, Wishes and Blessings says, “While mood swings are a typical part of childhood, extreme and persistent mood swings that disrupt daily life may be a cause for concern. If s/he withdraws from social interactions, loses interest in friends, or struggles in the company of siblings or peers, then it is evident that the child is experiencing emotional upheaval. Even in acute conditions, the child may develop an unexplainable phobia or fear of a particular object or situation. This fear and emotional insecurity may disturb their sleep, appetite, and even metabolism. Thereby, a noticeable shift in eating habits, such as sudden weight loss or gain, can be indicative of emotional distress.”

​​Grades may get affected due to mental health reasons​


The academic performance of the child significantly depends on her/his mental state. So, if a child's grades suddenly plummet or they lose interest in school activities they once enjoyed. In such a scenario, parents must be supportive of their ward instead of inflicting any punitive treatment. They must ensure that they are standing with the child regardless of her/his struggles.

​​Solutions to bring back lost positivity​


Recognizing these signs is the first step. Once you suspect that the child may be facing mental health issues, it's essential to respond with care and empathy. Create a safe and open space for your child to express their feelings and concerns. Encourage them to talk about what they're experiencing. Consult a paediatrician or child psychologist who specializes in mental health issues in children. They can provide a proper evaluation and recommend appropriate interventions or therapies.
