Early puberty is a big concern these days!

There is a change in the onset of puberty these days. Girls as young as 8 years old are getting puberty. A lot is being discussed on this early onset of maturity in kids. In a recent post, on Instagram, Dr. Nihar Parekh, Pediatrician, MBBs,Dch, MD (USAIM), Director, Cheers child care has touched upon a very critical topic and has urged parents to look into this matter seriously. In a video and a few slides, Dr. Parekh discussed early puberty and how to delay it.

What causes this?

"Excessive exploitation of animals for milk production. They are injected artificially to produce more milk and the effects of this trickles down to human beings," Dr Parekh says in the video.

"As per research in NCBI, The chance for early puberty is 25 times more in girls than in boys. Girls as young as 8 years are starting the puberty process," he captioned the video.

What can be done?

In the social media post, he shared inputs from Dr Manjari Rao, a homeopath practitioner for girls and boys above the age of 5 which includes not overdoing non-organic dairy, avoiding non-organic meat, consuming ghee and jaggery, and eating sesame seeds regularly if girls have already started their periods.

Precocious puberty

Early puberty, also known as precocious puberty, is when the body of a kid changes to an adult very soon. MayoClinic says, "The cause of precocious puberty often can't be found. Rarely, certain conditions, such as infections, hormone issues, tumors, brain issues, or injuries, may cause precocious puberty. Treatment for precocious puberty usually includes medicines to delay puberty."

What are the symptoms?

The common symptoms of early puberty are breast growth, growth in the penis and testicle, growth in body hair, acne, and body odor. These symptoms are typically seen during puberty and if these show at an early age parents should consult a doctor.

Parents need to be careful

There is a need to address this issue, despite the glaring fact that sooner or later a kid will definitely hit puberty. Puberty in itself is a confusing phase and kids as young as 8 years old are never ready for it. It is a stressful phase for the parents as well. Instead of waiting for the kids to come to you with their body issues, parents should be watchful of the changes in their kid’s body and seek doctor’s help in this matter.
