Every child should be encouraged to take up a sports activity

In India, the fondness for cricket goes without saying. Kids grow up watching cricket matches in their living rooms, they see their elders celebrating India's win and they read more about this than other sports.

So, if you are keen to know your kid's talent in cricket, here are 10 ways you can do so:

2/11

Eager to learn and grow

In order to ace a sport like cricket, you need to have a mindset that is prepared to accept new things every single day. The eagerness to learn the tricks and techniques of the game will help one grow and advance in it.

You must have seen cricketers practicing day in and day out, whether there is a match or not and that's your first clue; practice perfects you!

3/11

Accept feedback and criticism

You must have seen the level of criticism cricket players are exposed on a regular basis. From criticizing their performance on pitch to invading their social life, fans and followers do not spare a chance to troll the players.

However, it is commendable the way the players handle all these.

4/11

Great at filtering emotions

Be it invasion of personal space, or not having a great day on pitch, cricket players show a lot of grace when they face the public.

So if your kid is great at handling emotions and knows which ones to filter out, it is a sign that he/ she is ready to embrace a tough sport like cricket.

5/11

Has a good team spirit

You are not a single person in a game such as cricket. In a group sport, members work as a team keeping their vices and prejudices aside.

If your kid is good as a team person and knows how to keep things together when working in a team it is a sign that he/ she is ready for the sports.

6/11

Is independent

Not just sports, being independent is very useful in academics as well. The kid should be aware of the strengths and weaknesses and should not wait for someone to help them with that.

Without a sense of independence an individual's position is reduced to mediocracy.

In sports, people with an independent attitude know where to work on and where to improve and they are really clear about their position in the team.

7/11

Is self motivated

In sports, players fail more and win less. However, the self-motivating factor drives their energy and keeps them going ahead.

If your child is someone who handles failure pretty easily and does not need extra push to move ahead, be sure he/she can excel well in sports.

8/11

Believes in hard work

If your kid sticks to hard work no matter how tough the situation is, it is a clear indication that a rigorous sport like cricket will be good for it.

For a physical activity like cricket, one needs to put 99% hardwork and for someone already having this quality it will be easier.

9/11

Is competitive in nature

You can never excel in a sport without being competitive. Competition is the ignition that keeps every sports person going ahead.

If your kid has the aggression to win in everything, take it as a positive quality and channel it in sports.

10/11

Does not have a jealous mindset

Competition differs from jealousy by a very thin line.

Jealous people find it difficult to survive in team sports. In Chak De India movie, coach Kabir Khan had a hard time to break the jealousy between two players, Komal Chautala and Preety Sabharwal. It affected the team's coordination, he said.

11/11

Has a strong sense of acceptance

Strong or weak, pro or newbie, a sportsperson should always have a welcoming attitude towards juniors or new players.

This sense of acceptance enhances positivity in the person and also keeps the team glued together.
