A viral video claims that all McDonald's employees had to quit together

A viral video has taken the internet by storm as it claims that all the staff of a McDonald's outlet had to quit together, the video shows an empty outlet and a poster that read ‘Everyone quit we are closed’. While the video left netizens worrying about the hard times faced by the employees of the global fast food chain, it also evoked reactions and concern around the impact of COVID-19 on the restaurant business.

The viral video

In the bizarre video, the store was closed but had lights on, counters and screens were active without any staff, there was also a poster which read "Everyone quit. We are closed." The McDonald's outlet in the viral video is in La Mesa, California. The TikToker posted the video by captioning it: "When everyone quit unexpectedly at the same time."

The impact of COVID-19!

Globally, the pandemic has affected almost every industry and has made the job scenario miserable. While many people lost their jobs, others were left struggling for long working hours with reduced pay. But this news about the leading fast food major left netizens with concerns of job assurity. The viral video was uploaded by a TikTok user @zoey.isback, later it was shared on multiple social media platforms like YouTube and Twitter.

Fact check!

A fact check was done by Newsweek, which claimed that the video was fake. Apart from this, McDonald’s spokesperson too denied the claims. He further mentioned that two staff members left after serving a notice period of two weeks and all their outlets were fully functional. Moreover, the officials of the fast food major claimed that there were no mass resignations and all their outlets were operational. However, the video took the internet by a storm of concern over the impact of pandemic affecting jobs.

This wasn’t the first time that the fast food major had to deal with claims of mass resignations. Another recent post on Twitter too went viral, which mentioned a note written by an employee of McDonald’s for the customers - ‘We are closed because I am quitting and I hate this job.'

That’s not all McDonald’s went a step ahead to lure applicants by offering them a free iPhone on completion of their six months with the organisation. But the question still remains the same: are the companies meeting the employee's expectations or is it just a gimmick to lure applicants and burst the bubble! What’s your take on this?
