Bloating and indigestion remedies

Bloating and indigestion are two very common gut-related issues that every other person complains about. Bloating occurs when the stomach or intestines fill with excess gas, often caused by eating too quickly, consuming carbonated drinks, or eating certain hard-to-digest foods like beans and cruciferous vegetables. Indigestion, or dyspepsia, refers to discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen, sometimes accompanied by nausea, heartburn, or a feeling of fullness after meals. Stress, irregular eating habits, or low digestive enzyme activity can exacerbate both conditions. And let us accept it: they both can ruin your day, but Ayurveda offers gentle, natural ways to ease your tummy troubles. According to experts, try sipping warm ginger tea, chewing fennel seeds after meals, or starting your morning with ajwain water to boost digestion and banish that uncomfortable bloated feeling. These remedies work by balancing your digestive fire and calming the digestive tract, helping you feel lighter and more energized. Here we have three simple Ayurvedic remedies to get rid of them.

2/5

What does the expert say

In a recent video on Instagram, nutrition and wellness expert Dimple Jangda said that incorporating these simple Ayurvedic tips into your daily routine can make a big difference in gut health and overall wellness. Remember to eat warm, cooked meals and avoid cold or processed foods for best results. Embrace the power of Ayurveda and give your digestion the loving care it deserves!

3/5

Avoid raw salads

According to Dimple, it is better to avoid raw salads. They are often said to be rich in insoluble fiber, helping improve gut health. But, when you are already bloated, it's gonna make it worse. Remember, when you eat plants raw they release a lot of gases in the body. She suggests steaming them lightly, cooking them or sauteing them. Add some carminative spices like cumin, fennel, or coriander seed powder. One can also add herbs like rosemary, thyme, basil, or lemon juice. And make sure to add some salt and black pepper. Also, as per experts, vegetables and leafy greens may contain pesticides or chemical residues. Consuming them raw without proper washing or peeling can increase exposure to these harmful chemicals.

4/5

Eat as per appetite

She suggests filling your stomach only 80%, so that there is enough room for the digestive juices and air to circulate the food and aid the digestion process. And if you feel hungry, eat after 3 hours to balance out the appetite.

5/5

Consume digestive juices or herbal teas

To handle bloating and indigestion, she suggests herbal tea made with cumin seeds, fennel seeds, and coriander seeds. All these three are carminative in nature and help stimulate digestive juices and aid digestion, reducing vata imbalance. One can also add cardamom and a pinch of carom seeds to release bloating and stimulate the digestive fire, thus allowing better metabolism. Sipping this warm tea after meals helps relieve heaviness, enhances nutrient absorption, and keeps the gut light, making it an easy everyday ritual for smoother digestion and sustained energy. Regular intake can also reduce acidity, soothe inflammation, and naturally detoxify the system, while gently calming the stomach, supporting gut microbiota, and improving overall digestive resilience over time.
