Mind blowing food hacks

Do your bananas always go brown too fast? Want to find out how to make common foods last longer? When foods are stored properly, they’ll stay fresher for a longer period of time. Storing food right will help you avoid waste, shop less, and save money on your grocery bill! Here are some tips that will help you store your food without worrying about it losing freshness. Start following now:

2/10

Roast the tomatoes for longer shelf life

If your tomatoes are about to go bad, roast them in slices or chunks. Store the roasted chunks in a container with olive oil, and you will see the magic. They will stay good in the fridge for about a week.

3/10

Wrap celery in aluminum foil

Wrapping celery in aluminum foil will keep it crisp and fresh, not soggy. They’ll stay fresh for a surprisingly long time this way!

4/10

Storing honey in a glass jar

To retain it benefits for years, store honey in a dark glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Avoid storing it in metal, chipped enamel, or zinc-covered jars because it will oxidize there.

5/10

Treat herbs like a bouquet

Herbs like basil, cilantro and parsley should be treated like a bouquet of flowers. Store the bunch in a glass of water and change the water every couple days. Loosely cover your bouquet of herbs with a plastic ziplock bag over the top to keep in moisture.

6/10

Cover the dough surface with oil/ghee

You can also prevent your dough from spoiling by storing it in a zip lock bag or an air-tight container and refrigerating it. You can also cover it with thin layer of oil or ghee before placing in the fridge, to prevent it from spoiling.

7/10

Pack your leftovers in cans

Wide-mouth glass canning jars are a smart and inexpensive way to store food in your refrigerator. They’re airtight, leak-proof and safe for reheating in the microwave.

8/10

Keep berries fresh by washing them in vinegar water

To prevent strawberries, raspberries and other berries from molding prematurely, quickly wash your berries in a solution of three cups water and one cup vinegar to increase their shelf life. This works because vinegar is a natural disinfectant and mold killer. Just don't forget to wash before you eat.

9/10

Wrap banana stems in plastic wrap

Cover the crown of a banana in plastic wrap, the bananas will last longer. The stem of banana releases natural ethylene gas that makes the fruit ripen faster. For a more effective technique, separate the bananas from the bunch and wrap each stem individually.

10/10

Let avocado ripen at room temperature

Keep avocados at room temperature till they're ripe, then put them in the fridge for three to five days. Wrap avocados that have been sliced tightly in plastic wrap to to stop it from going bad.
