Emmys 2025 red carpet fashion: From Selena Gomez to Sydney Sweeney, the superhits and the sore misses

Lo and behold!

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards rolled into Los Angeles on September 14, draped in all the glamour and glitter one expects when television’s finest step onto the red carpet. As the evening sky in Hollywood turned dusk-pink, the Peacock Theater’s entrance glowed under flashes of cameras, designer labels, and bold fashion statements.

For starters, it was more than just awards: it was a runway of ambition, identity, and reinvention. It felt like a crossroads where style met statement. Stars showed up not just with couture gowns and diamonds, but with stories – reinventions of self, bold dips into sensuality, daring cuts, and even moments of comfort and casual rebellion.

From jaw-dropping jewels to gowns that could double as works of art, the night was a chance for actors, producers, and presenters to dress not just for the camera but to define their narrative. As always, not everything landed. But those misses often tell us just as much about what our culture values – risk, polish, originality, authenticity.

So, who made us do a double-take? Who left us scratching our heads? And who seemed to channel pure Old Hollywood glamour?

2/8

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco

Double glamour – both for the wins! The ‘Good For You’ crooner crushed it with a custom bright red Louis Vuitton gown – high-neck, sweeping train, very Old Hollywood glamour. The color, the cut, the presence: all on point and complemented Selena well. Paired with Tiffany & Co. diamonds, she balanced elegance and drama beautifully. Meanwhile, Benny’s tux complemented without competing. A fashionable couple-moment that felt glamorous, seamless, and not one bit forced.

3/8

Megan Stalter

This one is a mixed bag of opinions! Perhaps the most unexpected moment of the night. Instead of a gown, she arrived in jeans and a white T-shirt, paired with flats and a “Cease Fire!” statement handbag. It was bold, it was political, it was casual. It was also a rebellion of style norms – comfort over couture. Admirable for risk and message, but many in fashion circles saw it as too casual for the Emmy standard, even while others cheered its authenticity.

4/8

Lisa (BLACKPINK)

Talk about the crossover of stage style and red carpet fashion. Lisa delivered a candy-floss confection of bubblegum pink tulle by Lever Couture, with sculpted ribbons, a thigh-high slit, dramatic off-shoulder sleeves, and a train of ribbons. Accessories, especially the Bulgari Serpenti (snake-themed) jewels, gave texture and narrative. The jeweled pumps were the perfect bling bonus! It was whimsical but anchored in elegance. With sleek hair, glamour that both softens and sharpens, she stood out for being playful yet polished.

5/8

Leslie Bibb

Stunning dress overall (black Armani Privé with a plunging sweetheart neckline, velvet, and beaded details looked structural and sensational), but she confessed that the gown she’d chosen was so tight that she literally “couldn’t breathe.” When a gown is so tight that comfort is compromised, the risk is that it looks locked in rather than flowing. You want glamour and ease. Bibb’s look was gorgeous, but the discomfort was way more evident.

6/8

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost

Opted for something softer: a butter-yellow Prada gown (silk chiffon & crêpe) that felt refreshing amid all the reds, blacks, and jewel tones. Strapless, flowing, matched with silver platforms and a simple clutch, so the dress took center stage. She showed how muted tones (if styled properly) can stand out just as much. With her came the husband – comedian and the Saturday Night Live (SNL) star, Colin Jost – smart and suave in a black tux, complementing Scarlett’s soft charm.

7/8

Sydney Sweeney

The queen of controversy went full bombshell on the Emmys 2025 red carpet. A striking strapless scarlet-red Oscar de la Renta gown with cleavage-baring neckline, cinched waist, floor-length skirt, and dramatic train. And then the jewelry: 175 carats of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds (necklace, earrings, rings) that elevated the whole look. Sensual, powerful, glamorous.

However, her red gown was dubbed “MAGA red” by many netizens, sparking debate over political symbolism. Although fashion and politics always intertwine (just the way it did for Megan Stalter), here the association is distracted from the craftsmanship and star power for some.

8/8

Mariska Hargitay

A classic mermaid silhouette in burgundy velvet – a masterclass in classic Hollywood elegance. Strapless, form-fitting in all the right places, and elegant tailoring. In the burgundy velvet mermaid silhouette that hugged the body and flared with poise, she complemented it with voluminous waves, smoky eyes, and neutral lips. Not flashy, but rich in texture and mood. Simple in concept, luxurious in execution. It’s proofs like this that good fabric + good cut + confidence = style gold.
