Alia Bhatt just invented ‘Cannes ki maharani-core’

The red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival is mostly flooded with sculpted gowns and predictable glamour. In the sea of Western ensembles, Alia Bhatt chose a modern-day maharani elegance, which is surely giving old-money vibes. Blending in old-school Indian craftsmanship with high-fashion corset drama, she proved that nobody does soft glam quite like Bollywood. Squeezing in the right amount of desi royalty, Alia didn’t just serve fashion, but she quietly owned the spotlight.

Ivory, intricate, and impossible to ignore

If you think this ivory-hued drape is your regular saree, then you’re mistaken. The printed subtle shade featured small birds at the bottom and came with sleek brown borders which looked perfect with the soft pastel notes. But what stood out was the fitted criss-cross detailing around the waistline, which acted like a broad belt and looked like an extension of her structured corset blouse.

Saree, but make it Cannes

Her plunging neckline corset blouse featured strapless detailing with her dupatta attached to the shoulders, which acted like a cape and a chic dupatta, exuding peak vintage Maharani vibes. From the corset tapestry to the intricate pleating and unexpected waistline detailing, it seemed like Alia wanted the audience to forget the princesscore aesthetic and invented the maharani-core version at Cannes.

Giving rich-rani vibes

It's not just her outfit but her overall styling that made the fit check look ravishing. She ditched a neck charm and directly moved to decorating her hands with a pair of beautiful haathphool bracelets and simply wore a pair of quaint studs that exuded a simple, voguish glow. She abided by the maharani-core aesthetics by not going overboard and truly won hearts for her signature natural makeup with open, soft waves.

Representing India like a charm

Alia unveiled the poster and creative vision for the 57th International Film Festival of India at the Bharat Pavilion during the Cannes Film Festival alongside director Ashutosh Gowariker. Understanding the importance of the event, she kept things sophisticated and elegant, but far from anything basic. With delicate detailing and a dreamy silhouette, she carried the right notes of desi royalty at one of cinema’s most glamorous stages, and we cannot be any prouder of her.
