5 Agatha Christie novels with unusual narrators that will give you the chills

Agatha Christie is called the Queen of Crime Fiction, and rightly so. Mind boggling, eerie, electric are understatements that barely do justice to her work. Crime fiction mainly stands on the pillar of narration- how the plot unfolds. In most of her books, two detectives, namely Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot are the revealers of crime and the related paraphernalia whereas the narration is in first person by an omniscient narrator or a principal character. However, five out nearly 60 of her works defy convention and all expectation as they employ narrators so unpredictable that they make the reader jump out of its seat, literally. Here is a list of five books by the crime fiction queen that you must read for an unprecedented rush of thrill.

'Endless Night'

Narrated by a young man called Michael, this book is the story of him falling in love to marry the woman of his dreams. They go on to build their dream house together and live the perfect fairy tale until one day she dies without a discernable reason. Crime, thrill, psychology and a pinch of supernatural come together to give us this exceptional tale of murder and motive which should be missed any true crime fiction fan.

'The Unexpected Guest'

A man’s car breaks down in the middle of a road to get stuck in a ditch. When he goes to check the house outside which he is stuck, he finds a murdered man with a questionable family. Replete with red herrings and a deliberately deceptive faux conclusion, 'The Unexpected Guest' is titled as aptly as it could have been.

'And Then There Were None'

Ten people on a ship are murdered one by one. The events are narrated from multiple perspectives by everyone on the ship and the murderer is revealed at the end. Get ready for serial murders done in the most innovative ways which will keep you guessing till the end.

'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd'

Featuring French detective Hercule Poirot, this one is narrated by Dr.Sheppard who is a local physician of the village of King’s Abbot and is investigating the murder of a patient who died due to drug overdose. With a twisted ending and steady development, 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd' is one of Christie’s best works and a shining example of the unreliable narrator.

'The Man in the Brown Suit'

A man falls off an underground platform and is electrocuted. Anne Beddingfield, who has come to London to find adventure, is the only witness to the incident and the consequent examination of the fallen man by a man in brown suit. Anne is bent on finding him, by hook or by crook. Another one of Christie’s masterpieces, this is a rollercoaster like none!
