Patiala constituency of Punjab Lok Sabha Election 2024: Date of voting, result, candidates list, main parties, schedule

NEW DELHI: Patiala Lok Sabha constituency, one of the 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab, is scheduled to vote in Phase 7 of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1. The counting of votes for the constituency will take place on June 4.The constituency includes eight Vidhan Sabha constituencies: Patiala Rural, Patiala, Rajpura, Samana, Ghanaur, Nabha, Sanour, and Shutrana. It is a General category seat, comprising the entire Patiala district and part of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district. The constituency has a literacy rate of 67.63%.In the 2019 elections, the voter turnout in Patiala was 67.79%. Congress candidate Preneet Kaur won with a margin of 162,718 votes, securing 532,027 votes. She defeated Surjit Singh Rakhra of the SAD, who received 369,309 votes.Key candidatesFor the 2024 elections, the BJP has fielded Preneet Kaur, while the Congress has nominated Dr Dharamvir Gandhi. AAP's candidate is Dr Balbir Singh. A total of 25 candidates are contesting from Patiala. Preneet Kaur, the sitting MP and wife of former Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh, is running on a BJP ticket. The Congress has chosen Dr Dharamvir Gandhi, a former AAP MP who defeated Kaur in the 2014 elections to contest from the seat.
