Goa govt declares state mourning on Friday in view of Ahmedabad plane crash

The Goa govt has declared day-long state mourning for Friday in view of the crash incident in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, involving a London-bound Air India flight.
In a notification, the Goa government said that on June 13, all government-supported festive programmes, public celebrations, and official entertainment will remain cancelled or postponed.

"In view of the tragic plane crash that occurred earlier today in Ahmedabad, resulting in the unfortunate loss of several lives, and as an expression of sorrow and solidarity with the bereaved families, the Government of Goa hereby declares State Mourning for one day on 13th June 2025. During the period of mourning, all Government-supported festive programmes, public celebrations, and official entertainment shall remain cancelled or postponed," the notification stated.

Ex-Gujarat CM dies in Ahmedabad air crash

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died on Thursday after an Air India aircraft carrying him and 241 others crashed near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport airport in Ahmedabad in the afternoon, Union minister C R Patil said.

Rupani, 68, was the chief minister from 2016 till 2021, after winning the Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections from Rajkot West seat.

The London-bound flight AI 171, which Rupani took on Monday, was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian national, apart from two pilots and 10 cabin crew members.

They requested he be charged with "murder of a person carrying out a public service mission" and "intentional violence" against a police officer injured during the arrest.
