Honey Singh appears with BJP’s Tarun Chugh in anti-drug message in Punjab: 'You can make a comeback too'
NEW DELHI: Punjabi Singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, also known as Hirdesh Singh, met BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh to discuss Punjab’s growing drug crisis, with both urging the state’s youth to stay away from narcotics and rebuild their lives. The meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on using music and public influence to spread awareness against drug abuse in Punjab, where both said addiction was devastating families and young people.
In a video message shared by the Office of Tarun Chugh after the meeting, Honey Singh invoked the damage drugs are doing to families and called for a response to "save Punjab" from the drug crisis.
Tarun Chugh praised the singer’s global success and personal recovery journey, saying he had urged Honey Singh to inspire young people through his music and public outreach.
“Yo Yo Honey Singh is a son of Punjab who has made a name for himself worldwide. I have requested Honey Singh to use his songs and words to motivate the youth of Punjab to give up drugs. He has promised me that we will save Punjab. If Honey Singh can make a comeback, so can you.” Chugh said.
In a video message shared after the meeting, Honey Singh introduced himself and said he had met Chugh because both were concerned about the worsening drug situation in Punjab.
“The situation in Punjab is getting worse. Especially because of the drugs. The families are getting destroyed. The youth is getting destroyed,” he said.
Chugh, meanwhile, described Punjab as “the land of Gurus, Peers and Prophets” and warned that drugs were consuming the state’s youth “like a tsunami”. He appealed to Honey Singh to use his popularity and personal experience to encourage rehabilitation and recovery.
“And Punjab's identity is milk, curd, lassi... A brave son, a strong son, Gabroo, whose arms and chests are like folk songs, whose voice is revered by all the powers of the world, whose hard work is saluted by the whole world, come back to Punjab,” Chugh said.
Referring to Honey Singh’s well-documented struggles and comeback, Chugh added, “If Honey Singh can come out of that swamp, and every child of Punjab can come out, if Honey Singh can come back, and children, you can also become Honey Singh.”
The BJP leader also called on Punjab’s youth to quit drugs and reconnect with faith and family values. “Quit drugs, and quitting drugs is not a medicine, but a prayer of God, a prayer of Gurus, Peers, and Prophets,” he said.
