Close shave for Farooq Abdullah: Man aims gun at ex-J&K CM, pinned down in time - CCTV footage

NEW DELHI: A man allegedly pointed a gun at former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah in a tense incident that was thwarted in time after security personnel quickly overpowered the suspect, the CCTV footage shows.The officials said that Abdullah, accompanied by J&K deputy CM Surinder Choudhary, were returning from a marriage function when the incident occurred. The man allegedly tried to target the convoy and opened fire, triggering panic in the area before security personnel quickly intervened. The suspect was soon overpowered and detained at the spot, preventing any harm to the leaders. Both the JKNC chief and the deputy CM escaped unhurt according to the officials."Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. The details are sketchy at the moment but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was able to get within point blank range & discharge a shot. It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot & ensured that the assassination attempt failed. There are more questions than answers at the moment including but not limited to how someone was able to get this close to a Z+ NSG protected former CM," J&K CM Omar Abdullah said in a post on X.The accused was overpowered by security personnel and later arrested. Police, quoted by PTI, said the suspect is currently being interrogated and further investigation is under way. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
