Coronavirus in India: West Bengal reports 14,281 new Covid-19 cases, highest one-day spike

Fresh cases once again touched a new peak of 3.46 lakh in a single day in India while deaths hit a grim new record of 2,600 on Friday. India has now reported close to a million new cases (9.94 lakh) in just three days, while Friday was also the fourth day in a row in which India reported more than 2,000 deaths in 24 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with leading oxygen manufacturers across India via a virtual video conference. Modi said that this time is not only to deal with challenges but also to provide solutions in a very short time. He stressed on the need to maintain good co-ordination between the government and oxygen producers. Modi also appreciated oxygen producers for increasing their production in last few weeks. He acknowledged the several steps taken to increase the production of liquid oxygen, and also thanked the industry for diverting industrial oxygen to meet the medical requirements in the country. He added that keeping in mind the requirements of states pertaining to oxygen, the government is working on the effective use of the Railways and the Air Force so that the tankers reach the production centre as soon as possible.
