Masking their fear of the virus to vote for a new government, 54.3% of the Bihar electorate on Wednesday stepped out to exercise their franchise in Phase I of the country’s first full-fledged assembly elections under the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic, surpassing the corresponding 53.5% turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. 55.69 per cent voter turnout in 1st phase of Bihar assembly elections: EC
The first phase of the Assembly elections in Bihar recorded 55.69 per cent voter turnout, the Election Commission said on Thursday. A total of 71 assembly constituencies of Bihar went to polls on Wednesday in the first of the three-phase elections amid tight security and with COVID-19 guidelines in place. As compared to corresponding assembly constituencies which went to poll in the 2015 assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the turnout this time was higher.

While delivering his election speech in the second leg of his campaigning in Darbhanga on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphatically announced that NDA in Bihar comprised the BJP, JD(U), HAM and VIP. However, he did not specifically name Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s "eyesore" LJP chief Chirag Paswan. Nor did he castigate Chirag for, what the other BJP leaders have been accusing him of, trying to mislead the voters.

PM talking about all issues but not jobs, says Rahul
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday, accusing him of talking about all other things except unemployment. Addressing rallies in Darbhanga and Valmiki Nagar, Rahul said his party knows how to run the government and work for the poor and for farmers. “We gave MGNREGA and waived farmers’ loans… But yes, we do lack one thing — we don’t know how to lie. We cannot compete with him (PM) at lying,” he said.

Bihar records 53.54 per cent polling in first phase: State CEO
Bihar recorded a 53.54 per cent polling in the first phase of assembly polls on Wednesday, according to a release by the Chief Electoral Officer Bihar. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora earlier addressed a press conference here and said the final figures will come later on the basis of all the votes cast by the electorate.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Wednesday said there was anger among small shopkeepers, youths, farmers and labourers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar. Addressing his second poll rally of the day at Kusheswar Asthan in Darbhanga, the former Congress president also said it was sad that Prime Minister Modis effigy was burnt in Punjab on the occasion of Dusshera. "You didnt get to see it perhaps because Nitishji and Modiji control the media," he alleged.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday slammed the Opposition and even went ahead to term the Mahagathbandan's chief ministerial candidate, Tejashwi Yadav, as "Yuvraaj of Jungleraj" (Prince of Jungleraj). It is important to note that the era of former chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) founder Lalu Prasad Yadav's rule in the state is often referred to as 'Junglreraj' by its opponents. "I want to know from the people of Patna, I want to know from the people of Bihar, could Bihar dream of becoming an IT-hub in Jungle Raj? Whether 'Yuvraj of Jungle Raj', he can take Bihar forward in the field of IT, or in any area of modernity," PM Modi said at the rally held in Patna.
