The Congress, which wrested power from the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, has convened a meeting of all its newly-elected MLAs in Shimla on Friday where a resolution is likely to be passed authorising the party president to pick the CLP leader. The Congress on Thursday won 40 seats in the 68-member Assembly in the hill state which maintained its tradition of not voting any incumbent government to power since 1985. Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur wins from Seraj seat
Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday won Seraj assembly constituency by a huge margin of around 37,000 votes for the record sixth time. Thakur got 52,076 votes against his nearest rival Chet Ram of Congress party who received 15,069 votes. Thakur has won five elections earlier in 1998, 2003, 2007, 2012 and 2017 from Seraj, which was earlier known as the Chachiot constituency. The constituency has been dominated by the BJP for the last 25 years.
