The Congress, which wrested power from the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, has convened a meeting of all its newly-elected MLAs in Shimla on Friday where a resolution is likely to be passed authorising the party president to pick the CLP leader. The Congress on Thursday won 40 seats in the 68-member Assembly in the hill state which maintained its tradition of not voting any incumbent government to power since 1985. BJP lost the Himachal Pradesh polls by less than 1% vote share, and Congress won with least vote share in the state's history. But I respect the poll results. Hope Congress elects their CM soon & starts working for the state.

The only other party to have achieved this feat was the Left Front led by the CPM which ruled West Bengal for 34 years from 1977 to 2011 and in the process won 7 assembly elections on the trot. However, the Left Front rule in Bengal was a CPM-led alliance in which the CPM's vote share never came any where close to what the BJP has managed in Gujarat.

Congress heading for victory in Himachal
The Congress on Thursday appeared headed for a victory in Himachal Pradesh as it surged ahead of the ruling BJP, winning or leading in 39 of 68 assembly seats. In the latest results and trends available, the Congress won 26 seats and was leading in 13, while the ruling BJP had registered a win on 14 seats and was leading in 12 others. Three Independents also emerged victorious. The Aam Aadmi Party failed to open its account.
