Aman Aabid
Aman Aabid, an International Business student from the Netherlands learnt the importance of networking which gave him an edge in striking business dealsIndian students who always desired to go to the US or UK are now exploring other countries based on the university rankings and courses offered. Several less popular countries are now gaining importance as they are offering courses that are advanced, and the course fee is lesser than what it is in popular study destinations. For Jodhpur-born Aman Aabid, the main focus was to learn the nuances related to running a business. Wanting to make a mark in the corporate world, he turned to the Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven, Netherlands, to pursue a course in International Business. Before that, Aman had studied at the Indian Language School in Lagos, Nigeria. "I aspire to run my own business. Therefore, I wanted to pursue a course that gave me knowledge on new strategies to handle the market," he says.
Currently interning at an organisation that helps entrepreneurs set up their own
business, Aman says the institute's mandatory 19-week internship period is a bonus to
help students realise their future aspirations
Networking is key to growthCiting cultural diversity and the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with international students was an important reason behind him choosing Fontys. Instead of the preferred overseas education hubs, Aman says, "The Netherlands exposes you to diversity, as you study with a number of students from varied countries and background. Most international students and the native Dutch population are extremely adaptive.
This, for me, was a major factor for zeroing in on Fontys.""Varied opinions help in strengthening one's perspectives to a situation. Sometimes all that a professional needs to solve a problem is - fresh viewpoint."

International Business as a career optionAman hails International Business as one of the best programmes in a corporate world. He mentions that constant focus on covering every aspect of the business is what makes this course a viable option for someone who wants to choose this avenue. He also added that the course structure in itself helps the students to get a grip in all spheres of business. "In the initial two years, we are introduced to the main areas that a business operates in, that is, finance, marketing, HR, logistics etc. This course prepares you for the international market.Towards the end of the course, we are asked to choose the department we would like to work in the future. In-depth knowledge is provided in your chosen area thereafter, helping you specialise in your chosen area whilst at the same time, giving you considerable insight into the functioning of the others."Internship OpportunitiesCurrently interning at an organisation that helps entrepreneurs set up their business, he says the institute's mandatory 19-week internship period is also an added bonus as it helps the students get acquainted with the type of work they will be doing in the future. His internship requires him to provide these entrepreneurs with any sort of help they require, be it in sales, marketing or finance or in human resource management. This has helped him come in contact with as many as 2,000 budding entrepreneurs.Being an Indian who is living in the Netherlands, Aman credits the easy-going, friendly Dutch people for putting him at ease when he first came to the country wondering whether he will fit in it or not. The fact that most of the people in Eindhoven, where he currently lives, are students, helped him settling in.He says, "The country is beautiful and what makes Netherlands amazing are the people here. Eindhoven, where I live, is probably the most vibrant cities of all. Most people who live here are students and therefore, easy to mingle with. Academically too, the level of professionalism is high and the teachers are easy to approach, for both problems inside the college and outside. I highly recommend the Netherlands if you are looking for a destination to study abroad.Aman wants to put his education to good use and wants to start his own venture soon.
