This weekend, it felt like all the royals came together out in the English countryside for a jolly good time. Peter Phillips, the oldest grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and son of Princess Anne, tied the knot with Harriet Sperling, an NHS paediatric nurse, over the weekend. Although the wedding was an intimate affair, it was packed with royal heavyweights as King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate were all there.
The royal wedding: Peter Philips marries Harriet Sperling
Per People, the wedding ceremony of Peter Philips and Harriet Sperling took place at All Saints Church in Kemble, Gloucestershire, close to Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park. Peter grew up around there, and even though he’s not a working royal, he’s still close with the family. Technically, he’s 19th in line to the throne.
So, who showed up to celebrate their big day?
King Charles and Queen Camilla came, squeezing in the wedding before heading to the Epsom Derby later. Their presence made it clear the wedding was a big deal. Prince William and Kate drew plenty of attention too, especially with public interest in their future roles. Of course, Princess Anne, Peter’s mum, played a star part, with her husband Sir Timothy Laurence at her side.
Mark Phillips, Princess Anne’s ex-husband and Peter’s father, also came, making it a rare occasion with both parents present.
Other royals were there too: Peter’s sister Zara Tindall and her husband Mike, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie (Prince Andrew's daughters), plus Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. The royal turnout made it clear that it was a pretty major royal gathering, outside of state events.
The wedding that holds ‘extra’ significance
For Peter and Harriet, this was a fresh start. Peter had previously been married to Autumn Kelly, with whom he shares two daughters. They split up in 2021. Harriet, respected at her NHS job, brought her own daughter into the mix. So, the whole thing felt like a celebration of a blended family that reflected how the royal family has loosened up in recent years. In fact, royal watchers underlined that Peter’s wedding is significant, as he’s one of the first royals of his generation to remarry after divorce, showing how much the monarchy has changed.
For Harriet Sperling, it was a big debut. She’s been with Peter for about two years but keeps a low profile — she’s a devoted nurse, mum, and prefers privacy. When she walked down the aisle in her classic white gown and sparkly tiara, the fashion crowd took note. Not many royal brides remarry and wear a tiara, so her look drew praise and comparisons to iconic royal bridal styles. The couple’s children — Peter’s daughters Savannah and Isla, and Harriet’s daughter Georgina — played special roles, underscoring the family-centered vibe.
Were the Sussexes snubbed?
Of course, everyone was buzzing about who didn’t get an invitation. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle weren’t there. Reports say Harry wasn’t invited, even though he used to be close with Peter. Some people hoped the wedding might bring Harry and William together, but hard luck on that part. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were absent too, continuing their no-show status at big royal events.
