places where entry is banned

Earth has numerous magical places that charm our eyes and soothe our minds. Ones that seem like a fiction movie.

But apart from this, there are also places that are so hazardous, protected, or vital that entry is strictly forbidden. These aren't hidden for shady reasons; they're off-limits to keep nature, human life and unusual science safe.

These places include islands teeming with deadly snakes, secret military zones buzzing with mystery, or ancient caves whose walls crumble under our breath. This map of no-go zones sparks curiosity, reminding us that some places on this planet demand respect from afar.

Here are some of the most unique places that are forbidden to visit on EarthDisclaimer: The information in this article is intended for general informational and educational purposes only. Access restrictions, safety measures, and regulations for the locations mentioned may change over time. Readers are advised not to attempt visiting these forbidden sites without proper authorization, as doing so may be illegal, dangerous, or life-threatening. Surtsey, Iceland

Surtsey, off Iceland's southern coast, burst into existence through massive volcanic eruptions from 1963 to 1967, forming one of the planet's youngest islands from the ocean floor. The Icelandic government immediately designated it a nature reserve in 1965, even as the eruptions continued, restricting access to a select few scientists to study pristine ecological colonisation. This ban prevents tourists, divers, or boats from viewing it too closely, safeguarding against introduced species that could disrupt natural processes. In 2008, UNESCO recognised Surtsey as a World Heritage Site for its unparalleled record of life emerging from initial plants like sea rocket to birds and invertebrates, and that too without human interference. Visitors can only glimpse it from aircraft, allowing this vital laboratory to reveal insights into evolution and ecosystem recovery.

Ilha da Queimada Grande, Brazil

Ilha da Queimada Grande, known as Snake Island, lies about 35 kilometers off São Paulo’s coast in Brazil. It is famous and feared for its dense population of golden lancehead vipers, one of the deadliest snakes in the world. This venomous snake, which exists only on this island, has evolved highly potent venom to quickly immobilise birds that live there.

The island is off-limits to the public by the Brazilian government to protect both people and this rare species. Access is granted only to escorted researchers under strict safety protocols, making it one of the most dangerous and protected places globally. No tourism or development is allowed, preserving this unique ecosystem and keeping humans safe.

Area 51, USA

Area 51, a highly classified US Air Force facility at Groom Lake in southern Nevada's remote desert, about 83 miles northwest of Las Vegas, has sparked endless conspiracy theories and films. Established in 1955 for testing experimental aircraft like the U-2 spy plane, it has advanced stealth tech development amid strict security, motion sensors, armed patrols, and no-fly zones. Public access is forbidden, approaching risks of arrest or severe penalties, ensuring total isolation for defense innovations. The CIA acknowledged its existence in 2013, making it even more mystique while confirming military purposes only.

5/5

Lascaux Cave, France

Located in Southwestern France's Dordogne region near Montignac, Lascaux Cave houses over 600 extraordinary Paleolithic paintings, dating back about 17,000 years. They depict horses, bison, deer, and more with stunning artistry that still blows minds today. Discovered in 1940 by curious kids, it drew huge crowds after opening in 1948. But by the 1950s, visitors' breath, heat, CO2, and humidity sparked fungi and lichen growth, harming the fragile walls. France closed it to the public in 1963 for good, now allowing only rare, controlled visits by scientists. Replicas like the amazing Lascaux IV let everyone experience this UNESCO World Heritage treasure safely, keeping the magic alive without the damage.
