Chiranjeevi: Take a look at the actor’s imprint in the showbiz world

One of the most iconic Tollywood stars of this period, or any period, is Megastar Chiranjeevi. He has been regarded by numerous critics and audience as one of the most influential actors in leading the way for more important and meaningful roles on the silver screen. His talent has firmly established Chiranjeevi as one of the most honoured and respected actors in Tollywood history. Whether uttering a dialogue in an effective manner or dancing for any movement, he has managed to cement his image into Telugu film audiences.

On August 22, the legendary actor turns a year older. On the occasion of the special day, let’s take a look at the actor’s imprint in the showbiz world.

Awards won by the actor

His impact on the silver screen was huge. His film accomplishments are legendary, having won eight Best Actor Awards for his roles in ‘Subhalekha’ (1982), ‘Vijetha’ (1985), ‘Swayam Krushi’ (1987), ‘Aapathbandavudu’ (1992), ‘Muta Mesthri’ (1993), ‘Sneham Kosam’ (1999), ‘Indra’ (2002) and ‘Shankar Dada MBBS’ (2004). He had been conferred a Doctorate by Andhra University in 2006. He also has been titled as International Face of Cinema by SIIMA Awards in 2014.

Notable films of the actor – Khaidi & JVAS

Ever since his breakout role in ‘Khaidi’, Chiranjeevi has become one of Tollywood’s premier actors, starring in all sorts of different genres of movies. He has had some great films and some not so great ones. Fortunately, there are more good ones than bad ones. One movie that definitely makes the list is ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’. The film was directed by the living legend, K Raghavendra Rao, and also stars Sridevi.

Gang Leader

It should come as no surprise that ‘Gang Leader’ is one of Chiru’s most notable films. After all, this was the film that allowed him to become the star he is today, and we still remember seeing him in the rugged look and appearance for the first time. It was his role in the Vijay Bapineedu directorial that put him on the map as a major film star and an A-list actor. The film ultimately went on to become one of the largest-grossing films in 1991 and garnered rave reviews from audiences as well as critics.

5/6

Humanitarian side

During the late 1980s, Chiru became one of Tollywood’s highest-paid actors and used his notoriety and wealth to contribute greatly to supporting people by establishing the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust (CCT), which includes Chiranjeevi Blood and Eye Banks in Hyderabad. The trust has been awarded the Best Voluntary Blood Bank Award by the Andhra Pradesh state government for 2002-2003.

Upcoming films of the actor

Adding to the much-awaited action avatar of Chiranjeevi, ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ is one of the projects which has already garnered a lot of attention right from the announcement of its cast and crew. The Surender Reddy directorial would see Amitabh Bachchan, Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi as Obbaya, Narasimha Reddy's trusted aide, Nayanthara, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sudeep, Ravi Kishan and many other stars. Produced by Ram Charan, the film is scheduled to release in mid-2019.
