Director Buchi Babu Sana Breaks Silence On Peddi Backlash Over Janhvi Kapoor's Character
Following severe backlash over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor in Peddi, director Buchi Babu Sana announced that the controversial scenes will be modified and removed from the film. Taking to social media on Saturday, the filmmaker issued a public apology alongside the announcement. “After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned scenes. As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback... and have taken it seriously," the director wrote. Clarifying that it was never the makers’ intention to objectify or disrespect any female character, Buchi Babu stated, “I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologise.” The filmmaker confirmed the scenes will be modified. “After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned scenes. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities,” he added. Reiterating his commitment to respectful representation, the director concluded, “Every woman deserves to be portrayed with dignity, and our team remains dedicated to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values.”
