Today honours doctors across the country for their relentless service throughout the year. In India, Doctor's Day is celebrated to honour the legendary Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. On National Doctor's Day today, which is celebrated on the 1st of July in India every year, here's a look at some of the k-town stars who have donned the role of a doctor in their films.

Vijay (Mersal): Thalapathy Vijay played a triple role in director Atlee's 'Mersal' and one among them was that of a doctor. He played Dr Maran, who charges only five rupees from his patients. The film is all about the medical industry in our country and how corrupt some of the doctors and hospitals have become. Though the film ran into controversied before the release, it went on to become a huge it and turned out to be one of the highest grossers of the year.

Dhruv Vikram (Aditya Varma): Actor Chiyaan Vikram's son Dhruv Vikram made his much awaited debut with 'Aditya Varma', which is the Tamil remake of superhit Telugu film Arjun Reddy. The film is an intense love story that has Dhruv playing a brilliant medical student with severe anger management problems. He goes on become a successful house surgeon as well despite this and also having drinking problems due to his love failure.

Vijay Sethupathi (Dharma Durai): Actor Vijay Sethupathi, who made his debut with director Seenu Ramasamy's 'Thenmerku Paruvakaatru' worked again with the acclaimed director in 'Dharma Durai' in which he plays a doctor. His character Dharmadurai is influenced by his proffessor in college and goes on to serve the poor and helpless in the villages instead of running after money. The film won an award at 64th National Film Awards for Best Lyrics.

Prakash Raj (Vasool Raja MBBS): The comedy drama starring Kamal Haasan and Sneha in the lead had the versatile Prakash Raj playing Dr. Vishwanathan, who is also the dean of the medical college. The film was the Tamil remake of Bollywood hit Munnabhai MBBS and acclaimed writer/actor Crazy Mohan made it ten times funnier with his puns and one-liners. Scenes of Prakash Raj battling with Kamal Haasan in the film make for a great watch, and both the stars gave outstanding performances.

Prashanth (Jeans): Director Shankar's only film that didn't have have his trademark of the good guy who was wronged and seeks revenge is 'Jeans' that released in 1998. While Aishwarya Raai played the female lead, actor Prashanth played dual roles — Viswanathan and Ramamurthy, both of whom were intern doctors in a hospital in the US. How Aishwarya Raai fall in love with Viswanathan after her helps her grandmother treated again properly after a wrong surgery and how their love story unfolds forms the story.

Vikram (Samurai): In this film directed by Balaji Sakthivel, Chiyaan Vikram played a medical college student who goes on abduct corrupt politicians and bureaucrats after his college mate Jaya seal commits suicide when she doesn't get support from him to expose illegal fake drug sale in their college. He takes it upon him expose all the corrupt people and fights to bring them to justice.
