'Valimai' to 'Master': Five theatrical releases that grabbed attention during digital release

Post the pandemic spread, the cinema industry has faced several changes and many filmmakers started choosing digital platforms. There were also several filmmakers who went for a theatrical release amidst the pandemic threats. Even though films get good openings, the reception for films in theaters is comparatively lower than in the pre-pandemic days since the movies are getting released on OTT immediately after their theatrical release. However, the OTT platforms have become more accessible and convenient for the audience, and the reception it receives are proof. 'Master'

Vijay's 'Master' was released for the occasion of 2021 Pongal, and the film was released with 50% occupancy. Many feared moving into theaters due to the second wave threat, and the film got released on OTT on its third week of theatrical release. The sudden OTT release of 'Master' got massive reception, and the film turned out to be a hit both in theaters and in OTT.

'Doctor'

Sivakarthikeyan's 'Doctor' was released in theaters with fewer expectations, and the film stunned everyone as it's a complete laugh riot. But the film got affected due to COVID restrictions, and it prevented more audiences from reaching theaters. However, 'Doctor' was released on a popular OTT platform after time restriction, and the film was well-received by the audience as it topped in the trending list of movies.

'FIR'

Vishnu Vishal starrer 'F.I.R' was released last February, and the film received massive reviews. The positive WOM pulled in audiences to the theaters and the film performed well at the box office. But it reached more audiences when it got streamed on the OTT platform with subtitles. Vishnu Vishal is getting regular praise for 'F.I.R', while debutant director Manu Anand impressed everyone.

'Kadaisi Vivasayi'

Director Manikandan has come up with a classic film on farmers and village life through 'Kadaisi Vivasayi', and the film got released in theaters last February. Now, the film has hit the digital platform, and fans who missed enjoying the film on big screens are eagerly tuning into the film.
