Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has launched the “Singappenn” Special Task Force, a new initiative aimed at improving the safety of women and children across the state. Interestingly, the term of the new task force holds a connection with the former actor’s filmography.
The ‘Bigil’ connection
The new task force’s name is similar to the popular song ‘Singappenney’ from Vijay's 2019 blockbuster film ‘Bigil’. Talking about the 2019 movie, the sports action drama film had a strong message about women’s empowerment and it seems a similar message has found a place in government policy.
About Singappenn Special Task Force
The Singappenn Special Task Force was formally launched in Chennai this week. It was also one of the first important files signed by Vijay after taking charge as Chief Minister. It has been created to focus on the safety of women and children. Its responsibilities include preventive policing, quick response to complaints, surveillance in sensitive locations, and providing support to women in distress.
The name Singappenn immediately reminded many people of ‘Singappenney,’ the famous song from ‘Bigil’. The song, composed by AR Rahman, became hugely popular after its release and was widely celebrated as an anthem for women.
Talking more about the film, Vijay played a football coach who encouraged young women to overcome challenges and believe in themselves.
How the task force will function
Officials have said the force will work to identify crime-prone areas and improve safety measures in public spaces across Tamil Nadu. The task force will also coordinate awareness programmes and respond quickly to complaints related to women's safety. Additionally, it will increase police presence in places frequently visited by women, including educational institutions, transport hubs, and other public areas.
