Prabhudeva to Nakkhul: Actors who have tweaked their spellings

Here's why they changed their spellings

Whether it is actors or actresses, some of them change their spellings for luck factor or personal reasons. While we recently saw actress Raashii Khanna add an extra 'i' recently, actors in Kollywood, too, have tweaked their spellings. From Radhakrishnan Parthiban to Nakkhul Jaidev, there have been several actors who have changed their spellings for various reasons, including numerology, phoentics and other beliefs. Let's take a look at them...

2/6

T Rajhendherr

T Rajhenderr, who now goes by this spelling, was originally spelt as T Rajender. The multitalented artiste added an extra 'h' and 'r' to his name. When asked about it, he said that he changed his spelling based solely on phonetics and not on numerology. "I’m a research scholar and am a person who is very concerned about pronunciation. But I really feel that it is your confidence which will take you to the heights of success and not spelling changes. That name change will change your fortune is nothing but an illusion," he had said.

Radhakrishnan Parthiban

In an interview with us earlier, Parthiban had told us this real name was Moorthy, which was then changed to Jayakumar, and later to Prabhu. "After a few more alterations, I finally settled on Parthiban. I trust astrology, but not astrologers. I changed my name to Radhakrishnan Parthiban, as the former is my father’s name. I feel adding his name gives me some sort of strength. Also, my film 'Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam' became a hit after I took on this name. So, I have started loving this name post the film’s success." He had also changed his spelling to Parthipan once. Well, looks like it has now been changed for good.

4/6

Vivekh

Actor, comedian and social worker Vivek was introduced as an actor in the year 1987 with this spelling. For so many years, the actor went ahead with this spelling and has given many memorable hits. But quite some time ago, he added an extra 'h' to his spelling. While he hasn't spoken about tweaking his spelling to TOI, we guess that this change, too, was a phonetic reason.

5/6

Prabhudeva

The actor-director-choreographer has made many spelling changes over the years. He was introduced as Prabhu Deva and gave many hits as a choreographer, actor and as a director. But over the years, his spellings got tweaked. He made it one word, added an extra 'h' to his second name, dropped the 'h' in his first name and so on. He even jokingly once mentioned to us that we are free to use whatever spelling we want. But we now hear that the multi-talented artiste now goes as Prabhudeva.

6/6

Nakkhul Jaidev

When the actor made his debut in Shankar's 'Boys', his name was spelt as Nakul, his original spelling. But in a chat with TOI, he had told us that he changed the spelling for a phonetic change and not for a numerological reason. He said, "According to my friend, ‘Nakkhul’ is the way it should be pronounced. Also, we don’t have ‘ka’ in Tamil, only ‘ga’. And this way, even when my name is pronounced in Tamil, it will sound correct. So, it is actually a phonetic change, rather than a numerological one."
