Nidhhi Agerwal to Khushbu: Actresses who got temples in their name

Building temples for stars is not new in namma Kollywood culture — MGR, Khushbu and Namitha are some of the actors for whom their fans have built temples. Perhaps no other state ‘worships’ their actors as Tamil Nadu does. And, now Eeswaran actress Nidhhi Agerwal, too, has a temple in her name…Here are few actors for whom temples have been built or were planned to build in Tamil Nadu.

2/6

Nidhhi Agerwal

She might have had only two releases in Kollywood so far but Nidhhi Agerwal already has a temple dedicated to her in Chennai! On Valentine’s Day, Nidhhi’s Tamil and Telugu fans dedicated a temple to her. In the temple, built in Chennai, fans of the actress not only built a statue of her but also conducted paal abhishekam on the statue. The actress said that though she was shocked, she overwhelmed by the gesture and that she was grateful to her fans.

3/6

Khushbu

Khushbu made history in Tamil cinema by being the first actress to have a temple built in her name. She made her Tamil debut with Dharmathin Thalaivan and soon shot to fame with films like Kizhakku Vasal, Chinna Thambi to name a few. However, the temple in Trichy was demolished following her controversial remarks on premarital sex. And that’s not all. Khushbu idli was quite popular, too.

4/6

Namitha

The plan for building a temple for the siren Namitha was announced in 2008 when the actress was at the peak of her career. However, the project seemed to proceed rather slowly, and by the time, the temple was built in Tirunelveli, her market was gradually going south. On the temple, the actress was once quoted saying that since she was a secular person, the temple would be open for people of all religions.

5/6

Hansika

Fans of Hansika, too, had decided to build a temple in her name. When Hansika made her debut in Kollywood with Padikkathavan, she was constantly compared to actress Khushbu, who enjoys a huge fan following in the state. But, when fans of Hansika in Madurai planned to build a temple for the actress, she advised against it. She was lauded for the decision.

6/6

Nayanthara

There was a buzz that a temple would be constructed for Lady Superstar Nayanthara. However, it is said that when fans came up with the idea, Nayanthara seems to have lovingly said no to it. She is also said to have appealed to her fans to not go ahead with the construction of the temple. Interestingly, Nayanthara played goddess Mookuthi Amman in her latest film that starred RJ Balaji.
