‘Maanagaram’, ‘Kaithi’, ‘Vikram’: Before Rajinikanth's ‘Coolie’ hits theaters, you must watch these Lokesh Kanagaraj action films

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his gripping action films, is all set for the release of his next big project, ‘Coolie’, hitting theatres on August 14. And before watching the Rajinikanth-starrer, here are some of his popular films you can watch.

Lokesh’s first film, a city-based action drama, brings together different characters whose lives unexpectedly connect when a gangster creates chaos. Starring Sri, Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassandra, and others, it’s a tense story about survival in an urban jungle.

Released in 2019, this action thriller is part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). It follows Dilli, a former convict, who just wants to meet his daughter but gets stuck helping the police during a drug bust in one night of nonstop action. With no songs or romance, it still became a massive hit.

A 2021 standalone action drama starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi. It tells the story of an alcoholic professor sent to a juvenile home, only to face a local gangster controlling the boys through drugs. The film also features Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, and others.

Released in 2022, this Kamal Haasan starrer is another LCU film and a sequel in spirit to the 1986 ‘Vikram’. It follows a secret mission to bring down a drug cartel, with a powerful climax linking to the larger universe of Lokesh’s films. The cast includes Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, and a special cameo by Suriya.
