This meeting stirred up a debate as Rajinikanth was spotted touching the feet of Mahant of Gorakhnath Math and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. Several memes circulated against Rajinikanth as the 'Jailer' actor touched the feet of someone who is twenty years younger than him.

Rajinikanth personally met former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav at his residence on August 20. Rajinikanth felt happy to meet Akhilesh Yadav after 9 years, and the two friends have been in constant touch over phone calls. Rajinikanth also paid his tribute to Akhilesh Yadav's father and the late UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav by sprinkling flowers on a picture of the popular politician.
