Weekend roundup: Pollywood movies that made headlines this week

Pollywood stars and movies have been stirring a lot of buzz of late. On one hand, a couple of new movies have been announced and on the other, some fresh faces have stepped into the field of Punjabi cinema. This week marked the release of first full cast poster look of the movie ‘Parahuna’. With the poster, the makers announced the change in the release date of the movie. Earlier it was scheduled to hit the box office on 5th October, but now the audience would not have to wait that long, as the movie will be coming out in theaters on 28th September.

This is the second movie by singer turned actor Kulwinder Billa, who made his debut this year with the biopic ‘Subedar Joginder Singh.’ The other cast of the movie includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Karamjit Anmol, Harby Sanga, Sardar Sohi, Hobby Dhaliwal, Anita Meet, Malkit Rouni, Nirmal Rishi, Rupinder Rupi, Gurpreet Bhangu, Prakash Gadu, Raj Dhaliwal, Akshita, Navdeep Kaler and Tarsem Paul.

The trailer of one of 2018’s much-awaited movies ‘Qismat’ was released this week. The movie features Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta in the lead and is scheduled to hit the box office on 21st September. As expected, the movie encapsulates different shades of love in it. There’s comedy, there’s romance, there’s tragedy, in a nutshell, the makers have tried to bring a complete entertainer to the table.

Written and directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, the movie has been produced by Ankit Vijan, Navdeep Narula, Jatinder Aulukh and Shubham Goyal. The cast of the movie includes Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta, Guggu Gill, Tania, Hardeep Gill and Harby Sangha in pivotal roles.

Another movie that was announced this week is ‘Laatu’. It is a period drama featuring a fresh pair of singer turn actor Gagan Kokri and Aditi Sharma. This is the debut movie of Gagan, in which he is playing the role of an innocent village guy. The movie has been titled ‘Laatu’ (bulb) because the story revolves around how a guy puts all his best efforts to bring electricity to his village.

Scheduled to release on 16 November 2016, the movie has been directed by Manav Shah.

The hit jodi of Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa will once again entertain the audience with ‘Muklawa’ in 2019. The poster of the same was released this week. Slated to hit the theaters on 28th March 2019, the movie will have Ammy Virk, Sonam Bajwa, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Karamjit Anmol and B.N. Sharma in pivotal roles.

Simerjit Singh will be directing the movie. The trio of Simerjit Singh, Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa has been known to give hits like ‘Nikka Zaildar’ and ‘Nikka Zaildar 2’, now let’s see will they be able to recreate the magic once again with ‘Muklawa’.

Just like Hindi film industry, Pollywood has also hopped on the bandwagon of making sequels and threequels to some successful flicks. The recent one announced is ‘Nikka Zaildar 3’. It is the threequel to the 2016 released ‘Nikka Zaildar’. It will be a romantic comedy drama having Ammy Virk in the lead. Name of the female lead opposite Ammy hasn’t be disclosed right now.

A quirky poster of the same has been released, which states that the movie will be out in 2019 on 21st June. Simerjit Singh will be directing the movie, while Amneet Sher and GP Singh will be producing the same. The script has been woven by Gurpreet Singh Palheri and Jagdeep Sidhu.
