Some fearful horror Marathi movies that you shouldn't miss watching

Thinking of horror movies one can imagine of unusual creatures, creaking doors, and a creepy looking housekeeper, or a scary black cat and bats around. But there are a few movies that can keep you awake for nights and make you believe in curses and spirits. Marathi movies are famous for comic horror but we still have some spooky flicks which would scare us for a quite some while. Let's have a rundown on some scary box office hits.

2/6

'Zapatlela'

Mahesh Kothare's 'Zapatlela' managed to frighten us despite its similarity with the Hollywood film 'Child’s Play'. The story revolves around a gangster whose soul is transferred through a mantra into a doll. This puppet then tries to fulfill the gangster's evil purposes. While returning from USA, Gauri (Kishori Ambiye) gifts Lakshya this doll in which the soul is trapped. What happens when Tatya's soul tries to possess Laxmikant Berde is the story. This movie was an out-and-out entertainer despite its horror plot. Laxmikant Berde's commendable performance and Tatya Vinchu, the possessed doll attributed to the film's success.

'Pachhadlela'

Mahesh Kothare's 'Pachhadlela' featured Bharat Jadhav, Shreyas Talpade, Laxmikant Berde, Vandana Gupte, Dilip Prabhawalkar in lead roles. The story unfolds as three banker colleagues cum friends get posted in a village where they have to stay in an old Wada (mansion) that is said to be haunted by the spirit of a previous owner. One of the three, Bharat gets possessed by four of the spirits in the mansion and use him for their cruel intentions. What happens after this and will ever Bharat get back normal makes the film worth the watch. This movie was highly appreciated for its visual effects and was praised by the audience for the kind of the story and performances.

4/6

'Kanika'

'Kanika' was an extraordinary horror flick as it had a beautiful social message. Director Pushkar Manohar deserves an appreciation for incorporating the untouched issue of female foeticide in this genre and handling it cleverly. The movie revolves around the girl Kanika who's killed because of the greedy intentions of Dr.Kaushik and his colleagues. How the spirit takes the revenge and punishes the people involved in it is worth the watch. Sharad Ponkshe delivers an effective performance as the conflicted doctor on the receiving end of karma.

5/6

'Lapachhapi'

Director Vishal Furia forayed into the horror genre with 'Lapachhapi' and surprised everyone with its amazing content. The film's story is about how the spirits in a sugarcane field pose a threat to an eight-month pregnant woman who lives in the village with her hubby. The movie naturally feels creepy without any extra efforts. The cinematography and the sound played important parts in the success of the film other than the story. This film has some elements of Hollywood horror flicks. Pooja Sawant made a lasting impression in this film. We have seen Marathi movies exploring the horror genre but not to this magnitude.

6/6

'Goa 350 KM'

Amol Padave's 'Goa 350 KM' starred Yatin Karyekar, Sanjay Mone, and Gaurav Ghatnekar as lead characters. The story revolves around a newly married couple who is on their way to honeymoon to Goa and they are trapped by a woman's ghost who kidnaps the wife to reach to the person who has killed her.
