#Whatif: ‘The Conjuring’ was made in Mollywood

Folks, we are back with another interesting episode of our #Whatif series and for today let’s take the creepy horror movie, ‘The Conjuring’, and look into the possibilities of the movie being remade in Malayalam. ‘The Conjuring’ franchise is one among the Hollywood films that have a huge fanbase in Kerala and there have been several attempts at reprising spooky scenes from ‘The Conjuring’ in several Malayalam films and needless to say, they were all a miss. Your travel guide Simon is a bit terrified today as it’s a bit too much for him to travel into a universe filled with horror. So buckle up and get ready to enter the realm of ‘The Conjuring’, as Etimes presents the seventh episode of the #Whatif series.

#Whatif 'The Wolf of Wall street' was made in Mollywood

#Simon says, “Guys, I was waiting for you. I know I can't make this trip alone and you already know the reason why. Who would dare to enter a locality that has the presence of the creepy nun ‘The Valak’ alone? Since you guys are here, let’s start the engines and travel into the possibilities of ‘#Whatif: ‘The Conjuring was made in Mollywood’

Possibility 1: Ed Warren as Prithviraj Sukumaran

#Simon says, “We all know actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s love for dark-horror movies. If one is considering a remake of the horror film ‘The Conjuring’ then the role of the Paranormal investigator Ed Warren could be perfectly suitable for the actor Prithviraj. We have also seen Prithviraj’s stunning performance in the Malayalam horror movie ‘Ezra’ and the last transformation scene in the movie was just a pure gem of acting from him.”

Possibility 2: Why exorcism when we have the classic ‘Homam’ technique?

#Simon says, “Exorcism technique is something that we Malayalis are familiar with through recent films only. Before exorcism was popular, the classic technique of Homam was most commonly seen in Malayalam horror movies to drive out evil spirits. Director Vinayan, through his film ‘Aakasha Ganga’ added fuel to its popularity among the Malayali audience. So replacing the American style of exorcism, which Indian ghosts aren't quite familiar with, we could really witness the Homam technique in the Malayalam remake of ‘The Conjuring’.”

Possibility 3: Lorraine Warren as Manju Warrier

#Simon says, “The multi-talented actress Manju Warrier could really shine in the role of the paranormal investigator and wife of Ed Warren, Lorraine Warren in the Mollywood remake of ‘The Conjuring’. There are several moments in ‘The Conjuring’ franchise, where the actress Vera Farmiga, who plays the role of Lorraine Warren just nails her performance and imagining those scenes reprised by the versatile actress Manju Warrier seems so perfect.”

Possibility 4: Valak as Ganga

#Simon says, “The most terrifying Hollywood ghost spirit ‘Valak’, meets the most spooky ghost ‘Ganga’ from the Vinayan film ‘Aakasha Ganga, perfect isn’t it? Director Vinayan has a knack for scaring the audience with spooky scenes and jump-scares. The perfect replacement for ‘Valak’ in ‘The Conjuring’ series would be ‘Ganga’ and imagine ‘Valak’ singing ‘Puthumazhayayi vannu nee’ and roaming around the house in the Malayalam remake of ‘The Conjuring’, that would be something unique and equally terrifying right?”

Possibility 5: Janet Hodgson as Ammu Vinod Varma

#Simon says, “Those who have seen the Vinayan horror film ‘Vellinakshatram’ could never forget the terrifying performance of the late actress Taruni Sachdev in the role of a child ghost named Ammu Vinod Varma. Although the actress Taruni Sachdev passed away, the role of Janet Hodgson that was played by the Hollywood actress Madison Wolfe would have been a perfect fit for the actress. The most famous Crypt scene in ‘Vellinakshatram’ was one of the scenes that could give chills down your spines, solely by the performance of Taruni Sachdev and the horror ambiance created by the talented director Vinayan.”

#Simon says, “There have been several horror movies in Malayalam, but a franchise like ‘The Conjuring’ is really missing or even a deadly ghost spirit with a huge fan base like ‘Valak’. These are most of the possibilities that could happen if a horror movie like ‘The Conjuring’ is exactly remade in Malayalam, also it would have been really exciting to watch a spin-off of the ghost character ‘Ganga’ as she had a pretty good backstory in the film ‘Aakasha Ganga’. In the future let’s hope for a cross-over between ‘Valak’ and ‘Ganga’. With that being said, we really hope you enjoyed this week’s episode of ‘#Whatif’ and we will meet the next week on the same day with an interesting episode of the series, #Whatif.”
