Republic Day 2022: Mohanlal’s patriotic movie dialogues that will get your spirit high

Today we are celebrating the 73rd Republic Day, amidst the burgeoning Covid- 19 cases, commemorating the date on which the Constitution of India came into being in 1950. Watching the grand parade held in New Delhi during Republic day surely lifts one’s spirits high and the same is the case when you watch a movie based on patriotism. Coming to the Malayalam film industry, there are a handful of films that are based on patriotism and the most popular ones among them are director Major Ravi’s films with Mohanlal. The reason why they are popular is because of the patriotic one-liner dialogues in those films that could give you chills down the spine. Here let’s look at some of the best of Mohanlal’s patriotic movie dialogues that will set you right in the mood for Republic day.

“But there will be a day”- ‘Kaalapani’

The film ‘Kaalapani’ is, hands down, one of the best works of the renowned director Priyadarshan. Earlier Priyadarshan used to do mostly comedy films with actor Mohanlal, but when he decided to take a detour from the comedy track, the classic film ‘Kaalapani’ was born. Mohanlal plays a character named Govardhan Menon in the film who is prisoned in Kaalapani jail and there is an iconic scene in the film where he delivers a powerful dialogue to a British doctor bashing the ‘Divide and rule’ policy of Britishers. In the dialogue, Govardhan says, “But there will be a day when every Indian will realize that India has only one religion that is patriotism. That day you will all bow your head with shame, the whole world will!”

‘Keerthichakra’

Director Major Ravi is undoubtedly the master in making patriotic Malayalam films and his directorial venture ‘Keerthichakra’, released in the year 2006 is a proud addition among such films. The Mohanlal starrer film has several goosebumps evoking moments and dialogues and the most iconic one among them is the dialogue rendered by Mohanlal’s character Major Mahadevan to a terrorist that says, “Rascals like you might be afraid to confront and assault us. However, we Indians by no means assault someone from their behind. Just one Indian commando like me can alone cope with 1000 rascals like you. I have the blessings of a hundred crore Indians and I don’t want a gun to deal with cowards like you,”

“I will speak” - ‘Kaalapani’

Another one of the iconic scenes in Priyadarshan’s film ‘Kaalapani’ is when the jail warden of the Kaalapani prison tortures and murders a prisoner and Mohanlal’s character Govardhan Menon decides to report this mishap to the higher officials. Govardhan courageously says,” I will speak. The prisoners released by the court order were released and shot dead. I was the one who personally dug their graves along with these men. People who are willing to open up about this incident are locked up in the madhouse. One prisoner’s tongue was punctured.”

1971: Beyond Borders

Although the film ‘1971: Beyond Borders directed by Major Ravi with actor Mohanlal in the lead received mostly mixed reviews, there was this particular dialogue scene that really stood out in the movie. In one of the scenes, Mohanlal’s character Major Mahadevan renders a dialogue that really gives you goosebumps. The dialogue goes like this, “While standing guard for our nation’s security, a soldier’s weapon is not a gun, but his infallible valor.”
