Onam 2022: Take fashion inspiration from M-Town divas

Onam is around the corner, and the preparations for the festivity have begun in the homes of Malayalis across the globe. From decorating homes to deciding what goes on the menu for the feast (Sadhya), Malayalis are getting ready for the biggest festival of the year. And one of the most important rituals of the day is presenting Onakoodi, new clothes to your loved ones.

If you (women) have been scrolling through e-commerce websites and window shopping to find the inspiration for the right outfit, whether to wear yourselves or to present to someone, here’s some fashion inspiration you could take!

Go for indo-western lehengas

Aishwarya Lekshmi is wearing an indo-western white lehenga, with embroidery applique and sequin details. The lehenga consisting of a high neck crop top, the maxi skirt with intricate work on it, and the dupatta are ideal for the Onam festivities.

Pick the right jewellery

It is very common that one might tend to go overboard with accessories, especially on occasions when you wear ethnic outfits. Instead of going overboard stick to traditional or statement jewellery. A temple-inspired jumkha or a necklace could do the trick. You can also add glass bangles to add to the charm.

Your hairdo matters

Good hair day = Good day! Going for a hairdo that suits you and your outfit is important. If you are going for a high neck with your top or blouse, up dos will work the best. Similarly, for a plunging neckline, go for open or half updo hair.

Go slow on your makeup

Onam, especially the Thiruvonam day could get crazy. You will have to keep an eye on everything that is cooking in your kitchen, entertain your guests, take part in Onam games - both indoors and outdoors, and it is definitely going to be a tiring day. Instead of caking yourselves with layers of makeup, go for minimal makeup look. Ditch your foundation or go for a light one, or even used concealer and some bb cream can do the job.

Jasmine gajra is Onam look 101

Your Onam look is incomplete without the Jasmine flowers. Period. After slipping into your outfits, putting on the makeup, and placing the bindi, do not forget to add that jasmine gajra to complete the look. It can not only elevate your look, but also add some cheerfulness to your persona (and don’t we all need some)!
