Vehicle Owner Alleges Registration Number Was Used Without Permission
The makers of Mohanlal's blockbuster film Drishyam 3 are facing a legal challenge after a vehicle owner from Idukki alleged that his vehicle registration number was used in the film without his knowledge or permission.
Rajeev, a resident of Kunchithanny in Idukki, has filed a complaint against the film's producer, Antony Perumbavoor, director Jeethu Joseph, and other crew members, alleging that the registration number of his personal vehicle was falsely shown as the number of the vehicle used by the film's central character, played by Mohanlal.
In his complaint submitted to the Munnar DySP, Rajeev demanded that all scenes in which his vehicle number appears be removed from the film immediately. He also submitted a copy of his vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC) as evidence to support his claim.
Rajeev alleged that the unauthorised display of his vehicle number plate could create serious personal and legal complications for him. According to him, any incidents involving the number shown on the screen could lead to unnecessary trouble for the vehicle's actual owner.
"Now, with the film getting traction, people who saw the film have started reacting, seeing my vehicle as a 'Drishyam' vehicle. Mostly these comments have come from the new generation," said Rajeev.
Interestingly, Rajeev's vehicle is a Mahindra Scorpio, while the vehicle shown being used by the character in the film is of an entirely different brand. Despite this, he claims the registration number displayed in the movie matches the one assigned to his vehicle.
The complainant said he was neither approached nor informed by the filmmakers before using the number plate in the film. He has now decided to pursue further legal action against the production team if the scenes are not removed.
The complaint has raised questions about the use of real vehicle registration details in films and the filmmakers' responsibility to ensure that such details do not cause difficulties for unsuspecting individuals.
