While you dig up the internet for your film recommendation woes, here's a list of five films that are sure-shot winners

Grave times are upon the world, rendering most of us helpless and isolated from the glory of the outside world. But, as we wage newer battles with reality, the internet offers itself as a place of refuge with many little goodies available on OTT platforms. In fact, Kannada Cinema's many gems are only a single click away from us, and to make things slightly less difficult, we have put together a list of five films that will help you keep your mind off the pandemic (at least for an hour or two). This list comprises films across genres, moods, and time periods with each promising to be as exciting as the other, if not more. So, here we go:

Pushpaka Vimana (1987)

For those who long the empty promenades and vast open spaces of the Old Bengaluru, Singeetham Srinivas Rao's 1987 masterpiece is the perfect respite. A silent film about 2 hours in length, it features a stellar cast led by Kamal Haasan who's quite certainly on the top of his game here. Be it the hilarious, perfectly executed comedy routines or the sweet and endearing romance between the two leads, 'Pushpaka Vimana' has everything you need to fix your mood.

Accident (1984)

Shankar Nag's ingenious is out there for the whole world to witness but a timely reminder will only work to our benefit. His 1984 film 'Accident' is a terrific crime drama that also functions well as a time capsule to capture the true essence of the city back then. Right from the title credits which feature in a superb single take to Ilayaraja's funky soundtrack, the film packs everything that we need in these times. So, sit back and enjoy this masterpiece at the comfort of your home.

Similar Movies: 'Minchina Ota (1980)', '27 Mavalli Circle (1987)'

Bell Bottom (2019)

The second Rishab Shetty film on the list but this one features him solely as the lead actor. Rishab Shetty, as many would already be aware, began his career as an actor with films like 'Attahasa' and 'Lucia' before venturing out into direction in 2016. However, the slapstick side to the actor in him seemed hidden until Jayathirtha's 'Bell Bottom' came along in 2019 to prove that he is an abled leading man too. Supported by the brilliant and eclectic principal cast including actors like Hariprriya, Achyuth Kumar, and Pramod Shetty, 'Bell Bottom' is a sweet hark-back to the retro era with a friendly, neighbourhood sleuth to guide you along a solid mystery. The sequel is already in the making so get your game on right away!

Similar Movies: 'Jedara Bale (1969)', 'Singaporenalli Raja Kulla (1978)'

Pancharangi (2010)

Yogaraj Bhat's absurdness is perhaps his strongest trait and 'Pancharangi' is the best, and the most suited, testament to this fact. Much like previous few endeavors, Pancharangi too worries less about a plot, per se, and instead flows along randomly with one entertaining sequence after another. A satirical take on the concept of arrange marriages and superstitions, the film boasts of a strong principal cast with Diganth Manchale delivering one of his best performances to date. Watch out for Raju Talikote, Sathish Ninasam, and Rockline Sudhakar's hilarious comedy routines.

Similar Films: 'Gaalipata (2008)', 'Lifeu Ishtene (2011)'

Katha Sangama (2019)

Conceived as a tribute to the legendary Puttanna Kanagal, Rishab Shetty's 'Katha Sangama' kicked in the new-age anthology trend in Kannada Cinema. Featuring seven first-time filmmakers and seven different stories, the film offers a bouquet of emotions and perspectives that will never fail to impress you. With each story featuring its own cast and crew, there's a unique blend of flavors, dialects, and visuals in 'Katha Sangama' - Pro Tip: Look out for 'Satya Katha Prasanga' and 'Lacchavva'.

Similar Films: 'Sarkari Paathashaale (2018)', 'Ulidavaru Kandanthe (2013)'
