‘Baywatch’: Priyanka Chopra’s interesting statements about the film

All eyes are on Priyanka Chopra as she is all set to make her Hollywood debut with ‘Baywatch’. The film that also stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Kelly Rohrbach and Alexandra Daddario has sent fans into a tizzy with its multiple trailers and posters. The actress kick-started the Indian leg of promotions of ‘Baywatch’ in Mumbai on April 26 where she spoke about her journey in the West and breaking stereotypes. Here are some interesting statements made by the gorgeous actress that you just cannot miss.

How ‘Quantico’ opened avenues for Priyanka

PeeCee was a vision in white as she graced the press conference in Mumbai for ‘Baywatch’. Kick-starting the event with a video by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, the actress spoke about her journey in the West. Priyanka stated how her popular TV series ‘Quantico’ played an important role in opening the doors of Hollywood for her. “The kind of films that came to me were very interesting because of ‘Quantico’. You can’t just arrive there and say I want to work in movies. People need to come to you with films,” she said.

Tackling stereotypes

Priyanka agreed that making her mark in the West was not a cakewalk as she had to tackle stereotypes. Armed with the thorough professionalism that she is known for, the former beauty queen made sure that Hollywood sits up and takes notice of her talent. She said, “There has been a stereotype not only in India but also in the West about the lack of understanding of Hindi films. When I walk down on the sets, I want them there to understand that I know my job quite well, which the Hindi film industry has taught me over the years.”

You can’t act entitled in Hollywood, says Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra may be a superstar in India, but she knew that she would have to start from scratch in Hollywood. The actress said that she never let a sense of entitlement creep in and never expected superstar treatment in the West.

She explained, “You can’t be so entitled – just because you’re a star here, you should not delude yourself into believing that you’ll be treated like a star in every country. So I never expect that. I am okay walking into the room and saying, ‘Hi, I am Priyanka Chopra, I am an Indian actor’ and introducing myself to everyone in the room. It doesn’t make you small. Nobody (in the West) had seen my work till that time. I think the American press has been wonderfully accepting of me. I haven’t seen them being like this to a lot of Indian actors. They were friendly and loving to me. When I worked in India for the first time, even you guys (Indian media) didn't know me and over the years, you guys have warmed up to me.”

Bollywood beckons

While the world awaits the release of Priyanka’s maiden Hollywood venture ‘Baywatch’, Indian fans are also waiting with bated breath to see the actress in a Hindi film. When asked about the same, the actress shared, “I have locked three films but I can’t say when I’ll start working on them as I have to check my schedule. I have definitely missed Hindi films. This is my home and it has been really a wonderful homecoming.”

Tom Hiddleston…who?

Priyanka Chopra and Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston became the talk of the town after their camaraderie at Primetime Emmy’s earlier this year. Speculations were rife that a romance was brewing between the two. When asked about Hiddleston, Priyanka stated, “I don’t indulge in gossip, so I don’t want to talk about it. Just talk to 15 minutes to anyone and it starts making headlines. It was nothing.”
